People keep forgetting Phoenix is in Arizona--one of the most right wing states in the country.
Barry Goldwater, the Arizona Senator who opposed the 1964 Civil Rights Act and helped shift the South Republican in his 1964 Presidential Campaign, even agreed with William Buckley who complained there were too many John Birch type right wing nuts in Arizona. Goldwater said he had to tolerate them because they were so influential.
Go outside of Phoenix and those small towns are just as bad as any small Mississippi town. Ask Black folks from there.

We're on the blood path now
That sucks. I'm currently in Scottsdale. I love it in Arizona and want to move here. People keep telling me to check out Tuscon. Of course I loved Sedona and that's what sparked my interest in moving here. Hoping it ain't as fukked up as Oregon, because I love the weather here (admittedly I haven't been here during the hottest time of the year).
