I've always found this "pseudo exchange"(Wortham is talking about Asante but Asante is talking in general) interesting in that both sides are well presented with little B.S.; though I believe Anne Wortham gets a key point or two wrong concerning Molefi's work namely...
- She seems to think Molefi argues for the whole sale replacement of European knowledge when he is simply arguing for African peoples always start their investigation among African people.
- She conflates the obvious fact that humans have a common set of needs(food, shelter, clothing, etc) with the varied environmental contexts that people construct a solution to those needs within. I.E. the solutions(culture) that a river people come up with will be distinct from that of a cattle herding / pastoral people in the savanna/desert yet both solutions are likely better suited to their given environments.
