carter 3, wayne--- his momentum was stupid...we were all there so I don't gotta spell it out...those leaks destroyed this album

king, ti---same as Wayne....had the ATL movie dropping, dropped a classic single, then the album was just okay

bossalinie, cmurder---my favorite NL Soldier...he was in a zone, killing all his features in 98...started seeing the cover everywhere, im cysed.....album was way too long, beats by the pound fell off a cliff and clearly the tank was in decline..no Mystikal, no Mia X, Silkk on 1 joint....beginning of the end...but I chopped this shyt down to about 12 tracks and been listening to it like that ever since.
I feel Paper Trail is a better comparison to C3 than King.

Both were slightly watered down mainstream sounding albums that helped Wayne and Tip cross over to the suburbs and dominate the radio.

King was still vintage TI imho.

I def got caught out there with Streets Disciple. 20+ tracks of new Nas, that means there's going to be at least one full album worth of heat, right?

The "Disciple" freestyle shyts on most of the album.

I was especially disappointed with "Bridging The Gap."

It was soooooo great as a concept and a very wholesome moment but the execution just felt jumbled and almost like a mashup.

I understand what Nas was trying to do though.

Carter 3 (2008)

Magna Carta (2013); came 2 short years after Watch The Throne, the rollout leading up to it made it look like he was in the kitchen w/ some of the best producers through this career. Massive disappointment.

Wale Ambition (2011) (I know :mjlol:)

Cadillactica (2014)

Til the Casket Drops (2009)

Featuring Ty Dolla $ign (2020)

LAX (2008)

Huncho Jack (2017)

Nasir (2018)

That holy grail album had a couple raw tracks in my opinion but too many lesser songs for me to consider “classic”

I did hear Momma for the first time in a minute the other day and forgot how hard that shyt was :ehh:

He definitely went in, but I expected "harder" shyt to back up the BRA title he was claiming like those before him. Control and Look Out for Detox(I think that was during the rollout, but might be off) were a lot more aggressive and competitive. Wayne had joints on Carter II where he just went the fukk in like Tha Mobb. Even Jay "proved" himself with What More Can I Say on Black Album. I felt like Kendrick was focused on crafting a full body of work that he contributed elite lyricism to, but it just didn't match with the "IM TRYNA MURDER YOU nikkaS" energy the rollout consisted of. Classic as it is, TPAB isn't the *type* of record that a nikka should be screaming "I'm the best rapper alive" behind :manny:
TPAB didn't have that type of rollout at all though. The "Murder you nikkas" features was 2013, by late 2014 leading into TPAB he was doing all the more artsy musical stuff with the performances on Colbert and Jimmy Fallon:

After that Colbert one it was pretty obvious what type of shyt he'd be on with TPAB

Cadillactica was dope. Not a classic but very underrated. His second best solo studio album next to 4EIAMLT to me

Other than that I definitely feel you with every other album

Those Carter 3 leaks
:francis:

Wale dropping Ambition after his best project More About Nothing
:francis:

Ty Dolla Sign showing why his best music isn't his solo music
:francis:

Quavo with that album and that 2nd other Quavo Huncho album proving that he's one of the worst mainstream solo rappers of all time
:francis: :francis:

Kanye trying to ruin Nas' career producing that album while going through an acute manic episode

I thought Carter 3 was gonna be the greatest album ever after this song/performance :ohlawd:

Even the studio version doesn’t hit the same. That live performance was a MOMENT

Then you also factor in that period between Carter 2 and Carter 3 was one of the highest peaks for any rapper ever.

But in Wayne defense ….c3 is a hell of an album. I just think Wayne is too popaulr to ever have a ‘classic’ album bc he has too many fan bases to please

When Cam'ron first signed to Roc A Fella i thought he was gonna be on some Pac signing to Death Row shyt.

His album was supposed to be called Blow (later titled Come Home With me) and it was listed Just Blaze and Kanye was producing when announced. Thought it would be like The Blueprint instead it was good not classic.
