I don’t think Angel leaned into being a villain at all. Being black and confident is enough for them to consider her a villain. Every interview, Angel has always been respectful and speaks about uplifting women’s sports as a whole (not just basketball), she has praised the entire rookie class, and is about inspiring young girls, especially those who look like her.

Again in the basketball sense it's ok to be the villain; that has nothing to do with her off the court. Separate the two for a second. She literally got hype that Caitlin took a cheap shot the other night lol...from the bench might I add. That has nothing to do with being black and confident.

Well he would’ve said she was right. Instead he was appalled and acted like she was wrong for going there. The league had been around since the 90 s. They could’ve been talking about that shyt. You know First Take is going to force it now since one of their own colleagues called one of the big dogs out.
They could have, but why? No one cared. It wouldn’t have done anything for their ratings. He responded the way he did because she was right but he didn’t want to step on any toes or offend her by being honest about why and saying “I had no reason to talk about the WNBA 3 years ago.” If he could be completely honest without backlash then she likely would have been the one backtracking.

His show is First Take, not SportsCenter. They talk about hot topics in sports, they don’t just recap the happenings.

I mentioned before tho WNBA is percfect for what ESPN wants.

They can go OD with wild narratives, the women’s fashion etc. The problem is they really need to put focus on the actual play as the current is not sustainable imo. This isn’t the NBA where you already had decades of a loyal base before social media. All it takes is Clark not living up or getting injured. They need to lock in actual fans now

Honestly I think the play is even simpler. Cowboys didn't do shyt in the offseason, NBA Finals haven't started yet (and will only last a few weeks), nobody cares about baseball or hockey...they're using this as an agenda item for ratings until NFL training camps open up in late July. They have no real interest in the sport and given that Clark is struggling they're gonna just talk around the topic...which means talking about themselves. That's how you get the SAS antics yesterday, the media tour Monica did after that segment, etc. At this point women's basketball isn't even the topic, it's just about extending the drama.

And speaking of baseball and hockey as @King Poetic said, for some reason we immediately understand why those sports get limited to no coverage on the noteworthy ESPN shows, yet we need socioeconomic and gender study debates on why the WNBA got limited to no coverage pre-Clark. It's a dishonest, embarrassing conversation. I feel bad for the new people who are tuning in for the first time and realizing that not only is the WNBA product bad, but the commentary surrounding it is even worse.

These people are all on Caitlin Clark’s nuts and it ain’t working out like they want (so far) so they got to make up drama. Monica is one of the lead voices for that league and she works for espn. She can call them out. This same show will touch on smaller market teams who win, but will dedicate damn near whole shows to certain major teams win or lose. They can do better with the topics they chose to talk about. We all know they’ll move on completely from the wnba when NFL camps start so it is what it is. I’m watching the segment now and I’m reminded why I stopped watching this show. You can’t be a yelling ass debate show and have people calling in on zoom or via satellite or whatever they use at espn. The yelling is bad enough, having people yelling on like 2 to 5 second delays is fukking awful.

Stephen A always does this shyt. He acts flabbergasted, offended and aghast when he gets called out on some shyt he know is true. He did the same when called out for his blackness and approsch to players and weed. He is always a company man parading as if he is not. Then tried to pull your card like you should know him better than that to make accusations. You can tell he a bytch nikka personally and is very fortunate to be a money making figure or nobody would fukk with him
