I think she actually recorded the album when she was 11.

I remember my aunt having that album like a year or 2 before it dropped.

Told me she was somewhere called "The Underground" in the ATL when some lil girl(Monica) came up gave her the album.

Guess it was some promotional shyt.My aunt was bumping that shyt faithfully, to.

When Monica blew up, it kinda had me like:krs:

I didn't hear or listen to Monica until 'Angel Of Mine', when I was 13, so I am probably partial to that album, it's a little more iconic, polished album, with songs like 'The Boy Is Mine', which defined 1998....but 'Why I Love You So Much', is a personal classic, discovering it years after, and 'Miss Thang' is an incredible debut, esp. given her age.

It's true lol Miss Thang was the hood album the 2nd was still r&b but way more pop to where you heard her on a Hits 93.5 type station
i wouldnt say it's more iconic...i mean yea it had "boy is mine" - which felt like brandy's single since her 2nd album dropped first...and "angel of mine" was a pop hit, but i don't think the album itself is better or more iconic. in fact don't take it personal >>> angel of mine if we're talking monica's most iconic song

By the late 90's 1998 in particular, the brand of r&b that we now cherish and hold so closely to our childhood, was simply the hottest music of the time....It was the pop music of it's time, essentially....Acts like Brandy, Monica, Usher, etc were going multi plat, helmed by guys like Darkchild and Rodney Jenkins, plus Jermaine Dupri....

'The Boy Is Mine' reflects that, very big budget album, with polished, perfected production, crafted to make Monica into a superstar, which it did in most ways, until the tide of music turned post 2003 or so.

"Angel Of Mine" as dope a song as it is, is a remake of some Euro artist pop song, "The Boy Is Mine" is combining two R&B stars into a sensation overnight, a diva anthem sort of thing. Songs on huge movie soundtracks like 'Space Jam', singles like 'The First Night', which is like a late 90's huge single prototype.....which played everywhere when I was in middle school.
