My cuz lived with me. He was 18 or 19 and locked up. In our closet (we shared a room) I found Malcolm X and Monster. My cuz was heavily into being a Crip, and underlined all the shyt he loved in the book. Me I read it, soaked it up, and decided I wasn't going that route. Some of my peers were already shooting people or getting shot. Stealing cars daily. Punching their parents for disciplining them. In and out of jail. The book really kept me in my lane.
