Just like Dark 7 Invader last year, I recently had the chance, the honor and the privilege to sit down with Cilvaringz and go through the biggest part of his “Wu album”. Should anyone still have doubts if this album is real as it is taking the man “some time” to get it finished … the album is real and coming … and you better get ready for it!

As this is indeed what us Wu fans have been waiting and hoping for:

an Ode to everything that was, is and always will be so great about the Wu Legacy and a worthy Keystone in 20 years of Wu-Tang Clan. Be ready to expect it all and more as Cilvaringz will give us exactly what we want. This album is a Wu Time Capsule, a Warp back into Wu’s Golden Days, it’s Ringz holding up a Mirror for the Wu-Tang Clan showing them why they were omnipresent and invincible back in those days. A fan’s plead you could say for them to listen to all their strengths and plusses bundled into one sledgehammer of an album and to then perhaps reconsider why they ever walked away from their unique path of Glory. The audio equivalent of having a Wu fanclub meeting, where one sits down with other longtime fans reminiscing over all things that made them superior at the time, bringing up styles, sounds, kung fu skits, etc … all laced together with a constant “Say, remember how they used to…?”. And if you didn’t remember, you will when you hear the album.

Cilvaringz has pulled it off and created exactly what he had in mind, his own Wu Shrine. From the intro you already know you are reentering Wu’s 36 Chambers through the Main Gate, announced by a carefully chosen kung fu sample followed by Raekwon welcoming all “Liquid Sword nikkas” to the 36 Chambers, assuring us that “This is for all my Cuban Link nikkas”…

After that it’s straight into banger mode as we get one of the harder instrumentals Cilvaringz shared with everyone on Youtube a year ago, one which was warmly received by the fans. As often back in the day Inspectah Deck kicks off the track, traditionally a sign that things are about to get Sérious. Killer Priest, Killa Sin, Street Life and Method Man complete the track serving us our very first Wu Posse cut, something the early Wu is best remembered for. Everyone was always looking forward to these cuts most … and this album is filled with tracks like this!

If I interpreted the list that Cilvaringz gave away last year correctly then in the next track things really get heated up as U-God, Ghostface Killer, Scientific Shabazz, Killer Priest, Killa Sin & Raekwon The Chef go Biblical on their enemies and absolutely trash anyone in sight and beyond. It’s been a long time since I heard the likes of Ghostface this raw, hungry and straight up lethal on the mic. This is btw the track Cilvaringz posted a poll about in this thread quite a while ago, where fans could point out which version they preferred. In the end result the two versions got mixed together and from what I heard the result works more than fine for me.

I heard about 90% of the album so far but not all in the order of the album so from here on I will have to describe tracks at random instead of trying to follow the album tracklist posted here months ago. (To avoid you guys having to search the entire thread for it again, I will add it at the bottom of my post)

When we will have the final product in our hands and take a first look at the tracklist, tracks such as “Rainy Dayz Pt II” and “Diary of a Mad Woman” will grab our attention and curiosity first off course, bringing back memories of the original classic tracks. You could say these two odes got a totally different approach. “Rainy Dayz II” clearly is heavily inspired by the original song and revisits it, without being “just a copy”. “Diary of a Mad Woman” does the opposite, it turns 180° away from the original and will surprise you both in sound and concept. Apparently the result was so surprising that there even was a debate if it would fit on the album or not. Luckily, with the song being a Cilvaringz ànd RZA personal favorite, it will make the album.

Also mentioned in this thread by Ringz is a spectacular Wu Robbery posse track with Ghostface Killer, LA The Darkman, Raekwon The Chef, Killa Sin & 12 O'Clock. No idea what the title is but in my head I labeled it “The Wu-Usual Suspects” as this is truly a mini-movie with Wu’s finest under siege in a building surrounded by NYPD and the ever omnipresent news teams “reporting live from the scene” … impressive track.

What else did I hear? Let me think, so much. I heard a short, funky track with Prince Rakeem and U-god going back and forth in a way reminding me of ODB and RZA bouncing around in “Cuttin’ Headz”. On other tracks I heard RZA in Wu-Tang Forever mode and on others I heard a RZA going in raw, plenty to choose from. Speaking of U-God, it must be said that while the past years we heard him sharpen his swords slowly but surely, here he really goes for the kill and is in the form of his life on these beats. There is a U-God solo song that is custom made Uey: a no-nonsense beat marching on with a totally non typical Wu sound but this time in a good way. In the past U-God already always wanted to obtain a different sound but ended up with mediocrity most of the time. Here this is not the case, this one works great. To such a point where once the track was finished, I suggested Ringz to try to record an entire album with U-God. Another proof of how good Ugodzilla sounds over Ringz’ beats: there is a track with amongst many others U-God that will be the single for this album. Just as “Gravel Pit” was a radio friendly track, this one is aimed at a more mainstream audience but before you start to scratch your head, this one is so goddamn catchy that I want to hear this take over radio stations as soon as possible. I don’t want to give too much away about the concept yet but it’s pure fun (Hint: watch for the sky at night) . And pure fun it is indeed as you will hear that this beat bounces around so funky you just cannot sit still. U-God is made for this sort of stuff as he goes in full throttle and sounds like he has the time of his life. Same can be said of Redman on this track who sounds like he simply went apeshyt in the booth when he heard the instrumental. At certain moments I thought he would just jump out my speakers right there and start throwing me around the room. Near the end of the track you will get a special surprise, I will not let the cat out of the bag yet but at first you will go “ Huh?!? Who ??? Wtf ??” but afterwards you will still like it I bet.

Others who make a great impression in every feature they do are Killa Sin and Shabazz the Disciple, this was already stated in the thread by Ringz and I have to agree, they deliver the goods throughout and leave quite an impression.

Ever heard of DOA ? Disciples Of Armageddon was an attempted duo project of Shabazz and Killah Priest that never really got worked out. I heard a DOA track that will close the album: a very moody, dark track that I could have on constant repeat easily on a dark, cold winter evening accompanied by Bazz and Priest’s verses.

What else? A Sunz of Man/Killarmy banger … A Wu track that sounds like it should have been on “Wu-Tang Forever” with amongst others a very focused Masta killa ... The Deck snippet that was put on Soundcloud a while ago but now in the full version, hitting hard! … RZA, Cappachino and 12 O Clock making a pass at the ladies … A Tru Master type of beat, a typical slow burner we all know and love Tru’s style for … multiple Wu Posse tracks … Heavy Mental type of movie samples and Priest bringing the Apocolypse … Melancholic violins … (Shout out to) our Wu ladies Tekitha, Blue Raspberry, plus Feathers and Vanessa Liftig all coming through on the tracks … it’s all there people, it’s all there =)

There are four tracks I am yet to hear due to time shortage, one being the ODB/Brooklyn Zoo song. But from what I have heard the past days, I can say that anyone that has kept the Wu in his heart the past twenty years will be very happy with this album. Not much chance we will still see it come out in 2013 as originally planned but let’s hope this drops asap then in 2014.


The Wu-Tang Clan, its legacy and its longtime fans … they all deserve this one.

CIlvaringz just gave quite the update on Wu-Corp:

It's not as simple as you think. I'm sitting on what could very well be a Wu-Tang Clan album, a Cilvaringz presents album or a Wu-Tang Killa Beez album. At the same time there's a businessfriction within the group stopping it from recording their own actual 20th anniversary album. Verses have been recorded for RZA's version of the album but not in a cohesive way we'd all like it to be done.

Now, we all agree, including myself that releasing it under Cilvaringz would seriously undermine the potential of this album. That's something everybody knows and should remain the very final resort. At the same time you got RZA who will probably not want to release it in its original form because of taste difference or sample clearances or whatever reason. Then there's the chance that if RZA does take it, you'll get the backlash from the Clan re: payment/backends as Buddah_Mac described. Furthermore, if RZA takes it Divine will have to be involved and I'm not doing business with Vine for my own personal reasons. Power is also an executive on Clan albums and me and him don't really talk like that.

On the other side there's the investor who has a figure in mind that he wants as an advance if this album is licensed, to which ever party. And that's fair enough considering it took us well over half a mil to do this.

So I had to come up with an idea that would allow me to release this album at its full maximum potential if I were not to succeed in doing it with RZA for the price we want.

That idea is extremely complex, is structured in 9 steps/phases and at the same time very revolutionary. I have no idea how the world is going to react to it. It would allow me to make more of a mark for myself in the music industry, not just because of the musical content on the album but mainly because what I will do with album hasn't been done since the renaissance days in the 17th century.

So there's a big bowl of ideas and ways to go with this. At the moment, I'm concentrating on art work and mastering. Mixing is now 100% done. Yes it took 5 months almost. It's an intense album, many layers per song, some over 80 tracks.

Questions remain at this moment...

Will RZA like the record and take it as a Clan album?
Or will he demand a high cut or stop me from releasing if I dont agree with him?
Will Divine and Power make demands as well?
Will the rest of the Clan stop me from giving it to RZA?
Or will I say fukk it all, sue me and carry out my marketing plan, likely risking being kicked out the Wu?

It's all still up in the air. That's why I'm not even thinking about dates. I do know however that all will start in this upcoming month.
