Don Nelson tried to convince, pleaded, and begged Monta to be an oversized PG who can outquick other PGs instead of being an undersized SG who crashed into the lane without getting superstar calls and could only extend to around 18-20 feet.
Monta being who he is, never relented in his view that he was a SG. He would have been the precursor to the Westbrook archetype if he made the conversion.
Even as a ball dominant, ISO SG, he still averaged about 5 assists per game not even wanting to share the ball just off his natural feel of the game.
It's too bad he never made the switch, his skill set at PG would still be rosterable today ... but as a SG? There's just no place for him.
