This isn't that new, but I wasn't on the Coli when this series first dropped. MoonDust And Sunsdust are odes to Afrofuturism ( a movement furthered by Basquiat and Sun Ra) and natural hair, while paying homage to our ancestors who wore their hair in traditional fashions and embraces their natural flair. Embracing a culture and pure beauty that at times seems to be fading away due to white standards.
I had the chance to meet Sara Golish in 2012 at AGO ( Art Gallery Of Ontario), through a friend in Toronto who got invited to the revealing, and at first I was surprised she was white. I had a conversation with her for about an hour or two as we walked through the Gallery viewing the different pieces, and her insight was great. She said she understood that she could never understand what it means to be black, and that it may seem out of place to seem so interested in it because she's white, but in a society that tries to force feed "generic white beauty" to its public, it's important that WE ALL attempt to understand and appreciate all forms of beauty.
I just wanted to post the art for the Brothers And Sisters Of The Coli. There aren't too many forums where this could be posted without me being called "racist" for posting black beauty. So here.
