if i had a phd, multiple degrees and the academic clout he had i'd be arrogant too
Which is why you have not achieved any of that

The more intelligent a person is, the more humble they tend to be, in my opinion

Like the old saying goes, " the more you know, the more realize that you dont know anything"

Hes only "known" because the dominant society threw him out front

How many times has a black person who is funded by white people, behaved overall in black people's interest?

He believes in the big bang theory, which means he believes in evolutionary theory

He believes in evolutionary theory, which means he believes that melanated people are "genetically inferior" to europeans

Its that simple for me:yeshrug:

I can of course go deeper(:dame:) at any point

i already have the degrees and i'm considering going for the phd, fall back with all that son you don't know anything about me

some of the most successful and well educated folk I know are irritatingly arrogant, but you do what you want when you popping; it's never been my place to comment on the behavior of someone who's put in pain to get what they have no matter how eccentric or stuck up they are

i've worked with way too many young black kids who have told me they were inspired to pursue higher education in science and math because of neil degrasse tyson and other black figures of his standing to speak out my neck on some bullshyt and disparage him based on what he might or might not believe in

if you don't fukk with him and choose to believe he's some form of white-bred scientific plant that's up to you, but i've seen way too many examples of his existence being an encouragement to future young black scholars to judge him for being educated

Again, if you wanna hang fron dude's nuts do you, but being highly intelligent and having a lot of degrees are not the same thing. Intelligence refers to dynamic thinking and education has more to do with retention. Educated people are arrogant. Education level and arrogance are not necessarily indicators of high intelligence

I dont think I've seen a young black kid so much as speak his name though. He seems to have a lot of adult fanboys that are so enamored with his celebrity that they dont listen to what hes actually saying

Neil Degrasse Tyson is more media personality than scientist much like Bill Nye the Engineering Guy. The road to Tyson’s PhD is curious,

Harvard College (BA) Bachelor of Arts

University of Texas at Austin (MA) Master of Arts

Columbia University (MPhil, PhD) Masters of Philosophy awarded to graduate students after completing several years of original research, but before the defence of a dissertation, and can serve as provisional enrollment for a Phd.

By his own admission, NdGT did not spend as much time in the research lab as he should have. This is probably why his doctoral dissertation committee was dissolved, ending his pursuit of a doctorate from the University of Texas. The professors at UT encouraged him to consider an alternate career. This circuitous liberal arts academic route did take Tyson into the spotlight where he has thrived.

As the director of the Hayden Planetarium Tyson solidified his position in the astronomical community. NdGT is well spoken and he is an excellent front man for astronomy with great camera presence. While he is not a scientist in the strictest sense, he is well suited to convey astronomical concepts to a younger audience.

The bone I have to pick with NdGT is his conflation of science and politics. He uses his position, like many personalities in Hollywood, to advance an agenda. His agenda often leverages “science” but leaves real investigative research to others. Tyson resorts to labeling opponents when they balk at his ideology. He refers to opposing views as anti-science and the scientists that propose them as fact deniers because they question his position. It has been commented by others that Tyson feels his topics rather than researches them and given his public platform that is truly a shame

Dr. Hakeem M. Oluseyi is an astrophysicist, educator, and inventor. (B.S. - Math and Physics, M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Physics from Stanford University). His post-doctoral work was performed at Applied Materials, Inc. and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Physics at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and an Astrophysicist at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center. He is the author or co-author of over 40 scientific publications, holds eight patents, and has received several fellowships, honors, and awards.

Dr. Oluseyi's research has focused on the development of instrumentation for space-based astronomical observation including optics, detectors, and electronics, and on the analysis of terrestrial and astronomical plasmas including semiconductor manufacturing plasmas, solar/stellar atmospheres and supernovae. This makes Oluseyi a scientist in the traditional sense. He is a fascinating lecturer without the smugness of NdGT. If Oluseyi and Tyson had conflicting scientific views, Oluseyi has more credibility.

Yall let this glorified actor walk around like a god whose statements and ideas can never be challenged, which is the polar opposite of what "science" is supposed to be

I've reached this conclusion myself. If your expertise lies in astronomy, stick with it. Ive seen him speak on topics that have nothing whatsoever to do with him or his lane, and no one is 'allowed' to push back, which goes against the entire spirit of scientific inquiry.

That said, i wouldn't mind a thread or two. :ld:

I don't hate Neil but he's irrelevant. :yeshrug:

Dude just recites information we already have.

I see the difference between intelligence and education and Neil leans toward the latter.

I don't hate him but I don't respect him either, i don't know why he blew up, it make be because he :flabbynsick:.

He would make a good teacher but he lost me when all he was talking about was shyt that he couldn't prove and European history.

Fake European history too:comeon:

But I heard science in America was becoming unpopular so I guess they inserted a black guy to try and make it hip.

your point on intelligence vs education is valid, the people i'm speaking on I know for fact are intelligent as well as well-studied though. arrogance is a trait that anybody can have, and I know many accomplished people that are arrogant as well as accomplished people that are humble. both subsections have people that i know to be ridiculously intelligent in different areas

i'm not hanging from shyt, I personally don't know and haven't been affected by duke in terms of academics so I'm not revering him on any type of platform. I never said shyt about how I felt about him personally, I don't feel strongly in any direction about his figure, but i am confident to speak on how he's influenced these young black kids who are seeing representation in academics; when i was in undergrad i tutored high school and middle school kids, worked with overwhelmingly black kids and I'd always ask them who their academic influences or role models were. tyson was easily one of the most popular answers

i could give a fukk how some sheep brained adult wants to view him and how arrogant he chooses to be off the strength of his accomplishments; i don't view him on any type of pedestal from an academic sense, and I've never once used him as the pinnacle of black academic success, but I'm not going to fix my face to call anybody that actively encourages black children to pursue a higher education an agent
