This is dope and good luck to those black men who use this. Morehouse alumni hold very prominent positions so this will be great for them.

I don’t want to be that guy, but this will undoubtedly be very expensive, just like online degrees from other big name universities. Students will come away with debt without the college networking experience.

Still, another viable option for black men to receive their formal education is a good thing.

He will hear about it. If his current situation has him leaning towards completing his degree, he has other options but this is an option that he will hear/read about.

June 03, 2023 UPDATE

*very long article, has direct quotes from students

This was a great article. A couple of points.

First shoutout to Paul Carr (guy who was interviewed) you can tell being a Morehouse man and graduating absolutely means the world to him. Secondly we have to improve our black college enrollment numbers. This statement

“Many of the students’ earlier attempts to earn their degrees were waylaid by unexpected life events and the complexity of higher education. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, roughly 2.2 million Black men 25 or older in America have some college credits but no degree”

^^^ Is a huge financial black hole in our community because getting the debt without the degree benefits is terrible. The 16 percent overall degree rate is also terrible.

Third, it’s clear Morehouse and 2U aren’t ready to launch this degree program and it’s tarnishing both brands. More house needs to talk to its faculty and figure which degree programs they can actually offer.
