Not really. You're first years of payments are almost all interest. You miss a few payments and they your house and resale it.

Paying 30 years for a house sucks ass, but that's mainly folks keeping up with the Joneses.

A recruiter the following week hit me up about interviewing for the same role. Tech industry is crazy.

Yeah I'm feeling like I didn't go hard enough in this last one. It was a tech demo and I did... alright. Definitely missed a few marks. I think I probably didn't get the gig, but funny enough one of the panel interviewers added me on LinkedIn about an hour after the demo ended so who knows.

Not too crazy of a take as it really does depend on area. For example, the discussion here:

2003 $100k adjusted for inflation to 2023 is about $175k, which sounds about right.

Honestly it depends on if you have kids. $150k as a single person with no kids feels like a lot of money. $300k household income if you have a kid can be tough depending on your lifestyle. Childcare expenses can easily be $40k a year if you have a nanny. If you have a $1 mil home in LA (not unusual) you can easily be spending $5k per month for mortgage. Add in property taxes, 401k contributions, food, diapers, car payments, insurance, etc. and you can basically be living paycheck to paycheck on what would otherwise seem like a lot of money.

Not to mention if you pulling in that much, you get taxed much harder. Problem is some industries and companies are only in HCOL areas, but it's funny because many companies don't want to dish out HCOL salaries. Plus some high-knowledge jobs do pay pretty well initially but slam into some pay ceilings later on (many non-tech engineering fields for example).
