Mos Def Is The Greatest Songwriter in Rap!

People don't understand gthe current best songwriter in rap(kendrick), took a lot from Mos.

I'm not saying Mos is the best ever rapper(thats Nas) but the depth of his songwriting exceeds most rappers.

Thats why i post an example of Climb, not the type of song you expect a rapper to make, but it works...

I agree thats not the point, i didn't say its the best song ever composed in rap, but i used it as an example of Mos depth when it comes to songwriting. Very few can pull off a song like Umi Says, then at the same time, make a song like mathematics.

You know you got to be diplomatic, but Kendrick is definitely close, Good Kid Mad City and Section 80 is exactly what i'm talking about when i say both can make catchy songs while still not negating social commentary.

Same thing with Pac, dude is the biggest selling record artist of all time till a few years ago, but can still pen songs like Pain or Life Goes On.

Pac was an incredible songwriter, Big is there because of his storytelling.

Lifetime, travellin' man, he's def a top notch writer. I don't know why he didn't get bigger but I guess because he never fits into a specific category people lump him into the (ignored) backpacker/conscious crowd.

This reminds me, I have to peep Yasin Gaye.
