before i even look at the brian sutterer video im guessing hes going to say the position of the rest of his body and the angle of his left leg when he planted his left foot put a ton of force on his knee. in real time it doesnt look awkward at all but if you pause it when he plants it would seem like the angle put too much force or strain to his knee sideways and it gave way.
I've never seen a knee do that before

but normally you can say, "oh he slipped there" or "he landed wrong." He went up on a gather for a regular dunk he does thousands of times and the knee decided to vacate.
This is like rupturing a disk in your back picking up your remote off the ground
