Americans don't know the difference between want and need, but this is the result of living in a capitalistic and materialistic society. If you're not mentally strong you simply become a sheep aka a consumer. You can't even wrap your head around saving money because no one ever taught you the value of a dollar.

They should teach personal finance to kids in grade school. Starting in elementary, get it in their heads early and often.

but with globalization, over time america will regress to the mean as we transition to a purely service based economy. those who aren't qualified or know the right people are gonna end up slaving for the 20% that make it.
