He was never the hottest rapper out at any year, which was genius in retrospect and why he stayed relevant for so long. Being #1 or the hottest comes with the eventual cost that you'll suffer from over-saturation

You know your right, except I'd argue that he was the hottest in 03 (his "retirement" year) and 2006 (his "comeback" year) this doesn't necessarily mean quality of product as we all know KC isn't one of his stronger albums but the hype and media blitz surrounding that album's release was monumental....
