I can't even imagine what the reaction to that BCC album was back in 1997. nikkas in Brooklyn was probably throwing that CD out the window.

First time I listened I knew it was gonna be some bullshyt because it STARTED with an 80s Throwback joint. The 80s throwback is supposed to be the track 10 "Let's take a breather and kick it old school for a lil bit before we hit the final stretch" song, not an album opener. That right there let me know they had no direction and nothing good to set the tone.

Like why the fukk did they just throw the Beatminerz in the bushes for them garbage ass Casio default settings ass beats

Like nikkas was really in the studio like " This is that HOT shyt"

What happened is, they were being fukked with for only using beatminerz and tried to diversify. Instead of sticking to their formula they tried to chase casual fans.

Twas kinda disappointing yeah, and the ladies/"sellout" songs sucked a dikk, but there were some REALLY hard joints on there (Show Discipline, We Gon Make It, Whatchu Ride 4, Feel Me, It's Time I See U, None Of Y'all Better)

He was killing it with classic mixtapes, especially Kush & OJ. I even remember the thread on all of us were like how did he fukk this up

His debut was so disappointing that it railroaded his career. Wiz never rebounded from that mess of an album

AZ 'Doe or Die' failed to meet expectations the same way Big L's album did. Both good but weren't what fans expected. Time has been kind to both despite their flaws. 'Soul on Ice' was another one that people have retroactively declared a classic when it was seen as a dud upon release. I always liked it. Naughty By Nature album was half a dud. Their entire career is half dud.

Canibus is the stock answer. Monie Love is a fantastic answer. You can't even name 1 song other than Monie in the Middle and she had a ton of hype at the time.

Craig G's was a disaster.

The Lox debut is seen as a let down.

Before it became clear they were goof troop status the Kid N' Play debut was triddash.

I was 10 when For the People came out but I remember my uncle, who was 25 at the time, being PISSED at the album. I remember him playing it while he was playing video games and saying "this shyt is fukking garbage" repeatedly He never really cursed like that, even as a young guy. He eventually flung it out the window, case and all

But despite the overall disappointing let down we all have, the album actually did have 3 or 4 bangers or so. It was ironically the lesser known cats at the time that came the hardest. Illa Noyz's debut track with the Heltah Skeltah feature on it was dope. And The Representativz debut track was the best cut on the album.

By whom? Only criticism that ever really came from Soul On Ice on a large scale level was the production on some tracks. Ras was way too underground at the time to even have groundbreaking expectations. But that album has been a top 5 all time favorite of mine since I bought the cassette in October of '96. Same day I bought Da Storm, and I played Soul On Ice way more, and I love OGC to death.

And equally on the Naughty slander. On what planet are they considered "duds"?? They were one of the most popular groups for years, synonymous with early-mid nineties hip-hop. Hard to call their first album a disappointment, they were unknowns as far as I remember.

I don't know how Boot Camp Cilk fukked it up and it was 1997 too, they could drop dope group albums but when it came time together shyt was terrible.

As fans many of we were introduced to BCC and The Beatminerz at the same time (Black Moon). The reality is that they were two separate entities. There is zero Beatminerz production on "For The People". Buckshot and Mark "Boogie" Brown produced more than half of the album.
