If you get cold sores you have herpes. You have HSV-1. You do not have an STD, but if you have oral sex with someone while you have a flare then you more than likely will pass on genital herpes to them.

Wrong. Get your facts checked. You aren't born with it. You acquire it.

Kids get it at early age sometimes from nasty adults kissing them. If I have a kid, nobody will be kissing them.

Canker sores and cold sores are two different things. I get Canker sores whenever I get cut in my mouth from something like basketball. It's just when an open sore gets infected from the bacteria in your mouth

How Is Herpes (Oral or Genital) Spread?
HSV-1 is usually passed from person to person by kissing. HSV-1 can also spread from the mouth to the genitals during oral sex (fellatio, cunnilingus, analingus). If this happens, it becomes a case of genital herpes.

HSV-2 is most often passed by vaginal sex and anal sex. But just as HSV-1 can infect the genitals and cause genital herpes, HSV-2 can pass from one person's genitals to another person's mouth, resulting in oral herpes.

HSV-2 cannot survive long on a non-living surface, so there is no real risk of getting it from a toilet seat or hot tub, for example.

EDIT: and remember, if you are getting an STD screen, they do NOT test for HSV or AIDS/HIV during a typical screen. you have to request those tests specifically. so when you are getting tested for STDs, don't forget to request those as well.

It would actually be better to have HSV-1(oral herpes).Ppl infected as children with HSV-1 acquire an immunity(the immune system develops antibodies).That means this HSV-1 positive person would have a small chance of contracting genital herpes through oral sex with a fellow HSV-1 positive person.

On the other hand,an HSV-1 negative person would have great odds of contracting genital herpes from an HSV-1 positive sex partner via oral sex.
