The underlined part is not always the case. Women are usually the ones who initiate break ups. I agree with everything else you said for sure. I can use myself as an example. I broke up with an ex for a variety of reasons and cut contact. Almost 2 months later I instantly regretted it. For the next 2 years every man I dated was only a placeholder until I could reconnect with the ex or find someone like him. No man could measure up to him so I remained single for a couple years. This isn't a woman only thing tho because I dated so many men during that time who still had something going on with their ex or baby mama.
