That's already the case in most states. They can't just call you but you have to be involved in something school, job training, volunteer work, etc in order to get benefits. What they need to do is make it a federal law so that all states have to comply. They won't do this because the poorest, whitest states like mississippi, would be in shambles.

Isn't it funny how people will deny something and then 2 minutes later JUSTIFY what they just denied? Uhhh you can't do both. You can't justify something that doesn't exist.


Like I said, I'm not against welfare. I am however against people who are complacent and decide that welfare should be the final destination. I'm all for children getting an equal shot at life because those children didn't ask to be born. The children are the vulnerable ones so I'm very big on helping children because as cliche as it may be, they are the future. You want a better future, you need children to strive to be better.

I get what people are saying about the whole "kids shouldn't starve" thing, but is it REALLY that hard to not miss more than 10 days of school unexcused? If you have an excused absence it won't count towards your ten count, but if your child misses 10 days of school without being sick, or having an emergency, then wtf are they doing? It's time for parents to get involved in their children's lives and this ultimately is a great device to do so.

I have nothing against welfare, but I detest complacency and people being stagnant.

If you can't respect that then I just don't know what to tell you.

Even though I didn't grow up all my life in America( from 9 till now 25, from Morcocco), I don't understand the thinking of African-Americans or minority Americans as a whole, I was always told by AA's and people from my hood to succeed you have to work twice as hard as white folks, America is not fair!! In I took that shyt in stride, and literally worked harder than my counterparts. People wanna complain about racism, ok, you know racism is on every level in America, work twice as hard( like Mexicans do), fukk the bullshyt!! My people have become complacent, and believe in the American dream, anyone that looks up history will realize up until 1970s our folks worked and acted like Mexicans and strived to work and be twice as better as white folks to reach there level, its life get the fukk over it!!

Counter productive in the grand scheme of things. It doesn't make kids value education. It just causes the teachers more stress/time to deal with the kids who don't want to be there and distracts the other students who actually want to be there from getting what they need.


In order for it to be of any substance, there needs to be more regulation/requirements. Otherwise, it's just causing more hassle to the people who want to be there.

My parents would beat my ass if I missed class, and they kept in contact with the school so they'd know; I could intercept mail before they got it, but couldn't stop them from calling. But not everyone got parents like that. It would be easy as hell for a 14yo to skip school considering they often walk to school or take the bus; IE their parents don't know what they're doing.

Is the school calling parents, emailing, etc to tell them their kid is ditching? I might support this if they are, plus providing social workers as the article says...

But see your post is perfect example of why kids go astray and why in our community people continue a cycle of welfare. It starts in the primary household, more parents need to take parenting serious instead of letting tv, and teachers raise their children, its bullshyt. Nothing more, nothing less. To tell you the truth, as a parent I would rather take my child out this world than to allow her to be vagrant or ongoing convict in society.

I agree, I just worry about some families being punished unfairly. I think I agree with the principle of the law, I just want to make sure it's implemented fairly and effectively. Wouldn't want this to go through, then in a few months the state gov cuts social worker jobs for instance...
