Mountain bike recommendations

So im looking to get a mountain bike for this spring/summer.
I aint had one in a long time i had a norco back in the day,im not sure whats good out there right now.

and i dont want to spend 4 figures either...

I got a Specialized Hard Rock Disc 3 years ago for about $500. I know there are some better but that is the best bike I have rode on. Check for Giant, Specialized, Cannondale, Gary Fisher, and Trek. I actually went to a bike shop and got sized for my bike. I know there are others but those are the ones that I can remember off the top of my head. I guess it depends on what you are looking for. Since I'm a novice I don't know much about them.

you can get a good Specialized for a decent price..

my suggestion, if you're not trying to spend alot.. piece a somewhat used one together.. check your local Craigslist..

Craigslist is definitely a place to check out, but be sure you can go to a local shop to see if they have anything and you can get a proper size as well.

I bought a Trek (can't remember the model) last year that was about 4 years old and it's been fine for me. I'll snap a pic tonight. I wouldn't get too crazy w/ the model, etc.
