Most of these inner city hoods are sitting on prime real estate, you've seen was happened/is happening in New York with gentrification, that is basically the blueprint for every city now. People have been trying to move all the negros out of 3rd Ward for damn near a decade now.
The suburbs aren't really what's good, especially if you I'm a suburb full of nikkas that recently relocated from the hood and ya'll all barely making ends meat or are on section 8 to afford that basic ass 80-100k house. You still broke. And if you have low rent apartments nearby your homes (like most of the black "suburbs"), you usually aren't safer than you were in the "hood".

C'mon son. Best you can do is invest in some property downtown and rent it out to college students and businessmen.U can help the hood without living there.

The 'hood' is the physical of poverty. And not the natural, not should it be the accepted, living space for the black man, or any man for that matter.
The community living within the hood suffers from the dis-ease of poverty and the ailments of that attitude. This needs to change.

I think one reason why blacks don't invest in the hood is because blacks are more bias against blacks than other races. Besides barber shops, black people think they can get some free ship or not have to pay now "because we cool like that" or because they're both black, they'll get a discount (srs). They know with an Asian or Indian person they couldn't pull that shyt, so those businesses are more successful.
There's also the fact that a lot of black people have an inferiority complex, and view a black business as "lesser" than one owned by another race. It's fukked up but lots of blacks think like that.

A lot of the short minded heads don't think about making the next generation better for their kids or think that ownership is "white people shyt". Some will go as far as making their kids suffer because "I survived in these harsh conditions, so why can't you? Man up" as a badge of honor.

Like when Clarence Thomas was instrumental to neutering Affirmative Action. It's funny how people think that black people get all these huge breaks when it comes to getting jobs or getting in college, but I can't think of a single elite college/medical/law school that has a larger percentage of black people than is represented in the population. It seems like without AA, these places would just not take any black people.
Of course they wouldn't take them without As in place. fukked up thing is that it makes America backwards in front of other first world countries.

I can't speak on every city, but in Cleveland they remodeled some of the projects. They look like fukking town homes you'd pay 800+ in the suburbs for. I went over this one girl house and her shyt was actually nicer than mine
I agree with @BrothaZay it's not the community it's the people. You can have nice looking neighborhoods and it will still be shyt. nikkas don't know to appreciate anything. Until the mentality change, our neighborhoods will stay the same.
I know racism it still alive today but at one point we have to start blaming ourselves also. Too many nikkas don't have that drive to do better, or if they do it's for the wrong reasons.
