They have Nascar in Martinsville thats about it. You could hit up Roanoke Rapids.
You could move closer to the city and still have country living. Amelia county is cool. Powhatan also these are about 30 45 min from richmond. But its expanding in Amelia. 15 min drive you in a more populated county Chesterfield

Do people who move to other states normally visit the place they are moving to first or do they just go online and see a house somewhere and just move there?

I used to live in Lynchburg which is about 40 mins from there. You going to the straight country bro. At least you somewhat close to Greensboro,NC so there's your more black experience there. Danville doesn't have shyt in it. You will def get the small town feel.

With that being said, you have access to quite a few museums. There is a children’s museum, and a civil rights center in Greensboro. Closest beach will be a few hours away; VA Beach, and the culture is definitely about to slow down for you. Most everything you find interesting will require you to hop on 29 south to head to Greensboro.
