That's a good combination though. I was raised speaking Spanish and English so I'm fluent in both. Knowing Spanish I'm able to figure out a lot of Italian given the context. Of course because Latin is the root. I didn't realize Sicilian was different from Italian. That's interesting.

my other side spoke german and polish. that wasnt handed down into my generation though. in them areas, you had to learn the national language

In my family line, I'm part of the first generation that was raised fluent in English. My father and the generations before him were all raised speaking Spanish only and some of them began to learn English later in their life. Most of my family was born and raised in Puerto Rico and even though English is taught in schools, they still chose to speak Spanish.

Unfortunately I can't say I've ever been to Puerto Rico. I was taken there as a baby but I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York (Living in Virginia now). I don't know much about Puerto Rico, even though I would like to. God willing I'll take a vacation there and get to see where my family was raised within the next year or two.
