ZOMBIELAND = FIGHT CLUB SOLiloquay talking to myself, for my own survival good time!!
in the history of the oh so great zombie genre...you have to surpass two movies, when it comes to actually making a sound psychological driven modern updated zombie movie.
Those being:
twenty eight days later, and the original dawn of the dead.
argueably, twentyeight days later features the best horror movie heroine of all time. plus one of the better psychological built run for your life films of all time. packaged as a high quality film festival award winning overseas whatif docudrama independant style film. that just so happens to be an incredible hall of fame worthy, best of all time horror, thriller and zombie film. The other film, the original dawn of the dead, pretty much created the psychological blueprint you must follow on any budget to make a good zombie flick.
Alternatively, the cult following of the original dawn of the dead. Is so much of a plateau and genre foundation setting film. a remake of dawn of the dead would rate high as a newage zombie whatif terror bonanza. yet, the recent dawn of the dead, has a few miscues. that being it is made for what is supposed to be the american domestic audience. which means that hollywood typically does away with sound storytelling and psychology in domestic films. so, naturally the previous failed draw for a zombie movie created in northamerica. Would need to be re-evalutated, to test the draw, for zombie horror flicks as a legitimate high box office draw. the remake to dawn of the dead, although a good quality zombie flick. worthy of a default rating all time of about at least number five or six. lacks punch, and doesn't exactly build upon the classic twenty eight days later, or the original dawn of the dead psychology.
while also, ignoring how important it is to have incredible heros and depth. imo, the american domestic market does purposefully. i believe, this purposeful action is done as a litmus test to guage how awful they can make a movie. to test that genre's drawing power, so they release a guinea pig type movie like remake of dawn of the dead. complete with the remake title and remake premise to bring out the cult following fanboy crowd. plus the general audience, to see whether they can milk this genre consistently in an era, for high box office receipts. since, dawn of the dead, and 28days later, garnered a profitable box office return and acclaim. then hollywood will churn out another film, after that water breaking litmus test, yields a large profit. so much so, even will smith got to be devoured by zombies, in I am legend.
so, once even will smith took to the genre, using the remake forumula, and drew decent recipts. using the zombie movie for dumb domestic audience yellowschool bus books and cliffnotes. then, hollywood realized, they will have to go to the drawing board and try to give that crowd a really good high quality flick in the genre.
that actually may encompass all the elements of the cult following fanboy crowd, and the history of past greats in the genre.
hence, you get the film:
ZOMBIELAND
which actually expertly melds not only 28days later, and the original dawn of the dead. it also crosses into the comedy realm to mix together another overseas domestic drawing zombie classic, shaun of the dead.
imo, zombieland...exceeds the comedy level of shaun of the dead when it comes to being marketed to the domestic american market.
whereas, a film like shaun of the dead, is given a mark as not being synomous to the american domestic crowd...and typically would be ignored, as a foundation to create a quality film. I am here to tell you zombie movie cult followers. this time hollywood has not ignored your prayers, and even tried to suprass the bars set by 28, and shaun of the dead.
if you are looking for a movie that builds upon those zombie movie classics. in a genre chockfilled of hordes of attacking zombies moving at different aggravating speeds and intelligence. i'm here to tell you, hollywood has finally gotten a bmovie large budget cult followed fanboy approved genre right for a change.
ZOMBIELAND, meets and exceeds all your expectations on what an excellent psychological full fleged blackcomedy zombie film should be.
typically, when it comes to characters, in zombie movies made after twentyeight days. twentyeightdays later, almost solely created the high drawing box office draw. that warranted that zombie movies be given another try as a large money maker in hollywood, or the domestic market.
yet, the remake of dawn of the dead lacked the compelling psychology, and of course the characters of the original dawn of the dead, and twentyeight days later.
in zombieland,...you not only get the characters, the psychology, the storytelling, and most importantly the comedy.
Zombie land, delivers a high quality zombie blasting, wussie guntoting character. who doesn't get on your nerves excellent amusement park ride film. complete with woody harrelson, in top notch, over the top bloodlust zombie killing form, as well.
this is a don't miss movie in this genre!
honestly, i would rate it easily a top three to four all time in the zombie movie genre, easily.
if you love a moaning, drone filled zombie good time!!
then, zombieland is a definate must see for you.
