This is true of a lot of talented artists. Same thing with Snoop. I see people in here discrediting Snoop because they heard people write for him. Snoop may have writers, but it ain't because he can't write on his own, hell it's because he's a fukking BRAND and he has an image to maintain. Don't get it twisted, Snoop is probably one of the most naturally gifted, of-the-top-of-the-dome freestyle artists to ever have a record deal, his issue, like many freestyle artists is constructing coherent songs that don't run on in a tangent. Snoop also has interests outside of rap, so when he is pressured to put out an album, having a "team" is just part of the package, otherwise he just might not do it. Those of us who are 30+ know Snoop can rap, but Snoop is a grown ass man who, for the last 15+ years has had other interests to occupy his time and didn't really need to rap as he was becoming a cultural icon, so you damn sure better come to him with a "Beautiful" or a "Sexual Eruption" or a "Drop It Like Its Hot" if you want him to spit. His VOICE is worth more than his PEN. Bottom line.

This is smart-dumb logic . . Not because you're wrong but it's like you're trying to be the guy offering insight, yet it's merely commonsense to anyone with half a brain. That doesn't mean it's not detestable and it's not a valid reasoning for excusing him from detractors. Songwriting is an inherent prerequisite of being a rapper and there's been plenty of songwriters who write their own lyrics with larger BRANDS to uphold

The difference between Drake and Snoop is we know Snoop is basically a pop star . . Hell, Pharrell shoved his hand up his ass and used Snoop as a puppet to produce some tracks to test out a new style. Snoop is about mainstream appeal . . Drake was being critically acclaimed and hailed as a talented songwriter. His whole brand largely evolved around the perceived prolificness we saw in him as a songwriter

I'm glad that was the only portion of my post you had an issue with, I'll take it! Wasn't trying to be wrong, wasn't trying to be right, no matter which side of the debate you're on, all I stated was facts. :manny:

There was an interview I read years back with the DOC asking if he ghostwrote for Snoop. He pretty much said Snoop wrote all his own material at that particular time & he was there for coaching on some "say it like this" which is regular shyt. DOC was helping him develop. So I'mma go with the DOC with a young hungry Snoop writing his own material. As for the Doggfather & beyond, he definitely used ghostwriters for sure at various times.

Snoop is someone who is very capable of writing his own material, but he just looks at it as a business. Wouldn't be surprised if Dre influenced his way of thinking in utilizing other talent & picking what works. We all know his view on Warren G & Daz's contributions to the Chronic/Doggystyle saying all they did was "make the beats," like they didn't do shyt.

Nobody was ever putting Puffy or Will Smith in the same conversation with Rakim though...nor were they trying to flex like they really get busy or trying to vie for rap supremacy, telling their competition how much better they are a rap than them...

If Will Smith had come out on some "Greatest" shyt being a known puppet nikkas would have shyt on him for it but he stayed in his lane. Puffy admitted up front "I don't write rhymes, I write checks" ect....Drake has gone above and beyond to make it seem like "it's all me" when he's been getting accused of having ghost writers on retainer since 09.

Even his first real hit that people knew him for ended up being a legal issue with another artist that wanted his cut...fast forward to 2015 and now they are putting his scribes on soda cans and putting him on billboards next to Rakim Allah.
Thank you.... I just don't understand why it's so hard for these nikkaz to understand this. nikkaz keep bringing up Dre, Puff and Will... 2 producers and an actor lol

Honestly the truth is that outside of the Hip Hop community this isn't a huge thing.

The general public doesn't know the details and has only heard some peripheral things and about the IG jokes and Twitter memes.

I visited my HS aged niece and nephew recently and they weren't following the 'beef' like that.

My niece said mentioned, 'but Drake ended his career' and I knew she was just repeating something she heard.

I told her that the beef was cause evidence came out that Drake is a fraud and her jaw dropped. Kids don't know the real facts.

Needless to say she's not impressed by him anymore cause "he can't even rap"

DO you REALLY think rappers care about being put in someone's top ten?

No....which is why Drake spent the last 5 years telling us how great he is and how nobody in the game can fukk with him and how he's the best of his generation. :stopitslime:

If those types of things don't register....why would he do that? He was already popular, selling, touring....why would he go out of his way to put his name in the conversation, if it doesn't matter?

Do I seriously need to explain why this would matter to someone, that seemingly has everything?

Man....

It's ironic to see people mention Budden.

Dude was beefing with Saigon and took one line from some random fan off the internet. The "wide receiver" one.

People went nuts. Said he lost the battle by default.

Fast forward just 6 years and people are giving Drake crazy passes for having multiple reference tracks and ghost writers.:francis:

Sad times indeed!
Hip hop fans are de-evolving
Perhaps this was Drake's intent all along.

All those lists are for is marketing. If I say I tell you over and over that I'm the best than eventually you will start to believe it. And everyone wants to support the best right?

everyone wants to be on the side of the winner, that's why everyone loves the patriots and yankees, etc

Thats why he does it. At the end of the day though I really don't think these dudes are sitting back worried that they may have lost some credibility to a bunch of dudes on mesage boards and barbershops(the biggest demographic of dudes that DON'T buy albums)

But to the average female fan, teenage dude, or average white person that DOES buy his album(also the same type of ppl to hop on badnwagons the most) are the ones that will beleive he's the best.
