Nah the Taliban were being funded by Pakistan. Pakistan as i understand it, wants the taliban in power.
IS (Isis, etc) have been in the country, on their death cult shyt, trying to raise hell for a few years. The Taliban don’t like them, Iran doesn’t like them, the multinational forces don’t like them. Everyone kills them when they get a chance.
Lately they’ve been plotting on attacking the the crowds around the airport, and even the airport itself.
Even when I was there it was common for intel to listen to enemy radio/phone/chat/forum chatter to see what’s being planned. I think that’s where they got the idea that IS was even interested. I’m curious how the Taliban and the Haqqani’s are going to react to this. It fukks up their plans badly and could potentially get them re-donkey fukked, by multination forces, if it gets bad enough.
