Kinda useless

This is not useless at all and in fact I'd argue that this should be the standard front/main page. Why? It facilitates more activity in threads in sections that don't get as much activity as well as makes threads that could be placed in multiple sections more visible.

Case In Point. I noticed @Napoleon making the same thread in different sections. I don't fault for him for this and I understand why he did it.

Literally a different poster in each posts on the same topic in two different sections. The conversation would have been much more engaging had all those posts been in just one thread. The problem with merging the thread and sticking it in one section is if you put it in HL, all the people in TLR won't comment and if you stick it in TLR the HL posters won't comment...Basically there's forum bias going on when posters should post based on the topic and not what forum it's in. Now if the mainpage has a mixture of posts across different forums in reduces this "forum bias" and provides more visibility to good topics.

right?

this ain't reddit.

theres only like 7 forums :heh:
:beli: At the irony here. I made my post before reading yours, had I known you would say this I would have given another example. But you do this frequently so I would have guessed you'd like this feature the most. Reddit was my inspiration for the post.

Actually, The Sky Box

You can see everything from the Sky Box.

And this piggybacks on the whole "coli" mantra going/sports allusion on this site...Coliseum relating to a sports Stadium, Skybox being a section in a sports stadium

We couldn't use this as the homepage because it's not functional for guests in its current form. We are trying to improve the "Home" page and I think it's gotten more useful with some of the improvements made recently but it still needs some work - http://www.thecoli.com/portal/ There are some things about reddit that work really well and if done right would be nice to have here. A front page that basically gives you a snap shot of the most popular threads at the moment would be ideal especially as the forum grows.

I didn't mean first page as in the home page, quite frankly I didn't even know that page you just linked existed.
I meant this page:
http://www.thecoli.com/

From a user standpoint and even monetization/ad standpoint the page is pretty much useless. It's a page with no engaging content and redirects the user within seconds to whatever forum they want to goto. I understand it may not be feasible or possible to change it at this time :ld:

its possible to change, its just that the page I just linked to isnt really ready for that. a lot of forums try to do landing pages and portals and 99% of the time they end up being annoying and users end up bookmarking the main forum list so they can bypass it. we're not concerned about monetization like that, user experience is higher on our priority list and right now although our index page doesnt have engaging content, its the format everyone is used to and familiar with.
