I always imagined passing our history down to our younger generations would benefit our community.
exactly don't know what these dudes talmbout :snoop:
I'd like our history passed on also. History about Africa. It's always civil rights and slavery. Kids in school these days don't learn shyt about Africa. Nor do they know about black wall street that used to exist before the cacs got to it. There's countless pieces of history that I'm sure won't be represented at that museum that should.

How about using that money to build and fund a school with a focus towards teaching and empowering young AA kids? Would that not benefit the community more than a museum no one will more likely visit after 3 years?

Our history in the Americas is extremely important especially as time goes by. African Americans are only a few generations removed from slavery as time continues that understanding and connection may diminish, I feel it is extremely important and should not be forgotten. Nothing is stopping people from learning about Africa it's taught in most colleges and books and information are everywhere. The civil right era and slavery are important to the African American and black struggle and should be hammered into everyone no matter their background so it can't happen again. Africa is a big place and most blacks in the Americas who aren't immigrants don't know where they're from (not that it should detract from learning about Africa) it can't be learned in four years. I'm frankly happy when people get out of high school with a good understanding of English, science, and math. You would be hard pressed to find someone on this forum who isn't aware of black wall street, so what does that say. The history has a specific purpose that I hope it fulfills, there is nothing stopping us from having it all.

There are programs across the country that benefit AA's and empower them. Stop being a dumb, smart brother, Brother.

I agree it is important and should not be forgotten. My point was not that it isn't important.

You're right nothing is stopping people, however european history is taught thoroughly in schools (pre-college) and there are tons of books and info everywhere. Why is it that African history shouldn't be taught on a wide scale also (pre-college)?

The civil right era and slavery are important to the African American and black struggle and should be hammered into everyone no matter their background so it can't happen again. Africa is a big place and most blacks in the Americas who aren't immigrants don't know where they're from (not that it should detract from learning about Africa) it can't be learned in four years.

What I'm proposing is not "let's just skip the civil rights era and slavery", it alls need to included in the same curriculum. So because it can't be learned in four years means it doesn't make sense to teach it? Really???

So this forums represents black american as a collective now? If we went out in the streets of Atlanta and took a poll on who knows about the Tulsa black wall street I'd bet money maybe 1 out of 10. I might not have been very clear but I am not advocating not teaching slavery/civil rights. I am advocating teaching students about Africa AND slavery (emphasis on Africa) in a school setting versus a museum where people may spend an hour or two. Is that what you disagreeing with me on?

Stop being a dumb, smart brother, Brother.
