Most aados artist throughout history have natrually strayed away from these theories, and many have even explicitly rejected this form of reading or writing music despite being familiar with it which led to the development of bebop, free form jazz, and avant garde jazz.

:wow:

genius thread. Havent watched the video yet. But that music theory shyt is all Cap

As it pertains to modern music. Study the organic function of the ados pioneers not no damn music theory:mjlol:

People wouldn't risk calling this out in fear of appearing anti-intellectual

But music theory is mainly for non blacks who dont have the soul to do it organically.

None of the architects were using their "music theories" as a bedrock to create music

Exactly, "music theory" as it is isn't helpful in our tradition with it's focus on keys, chord progressions, scales, meters and shyt. From the very beginning with lets say blues we pretty much broke all of the conventional rules of it.

Not only that but "harmony" in our music tends to be centered on things they call timbre, pitch, and textures.

Things like the swing rhythm and groove can't even be properly notated in musical theory because it's more a rhythmic 'feel' than a rhythmic structure. It can "feel" more like triplet notes at slower tempos, but at faster tempos they tend to 'feel' more like straight notes.

Ornette Coleman actively tried to COMPLETELY dismantle "music theory" conventions with his own theory of harmolodics. Which ironically tends to focus more on textures of harmony than shyt like chords progressions

Harmolodics - Wikipedia

I think every aados artist should at least give this a cursory study, along with avant grade and John Coltrane.

I gotcha, playa. :jawalrus:

Cats like you always get their negro spiritual wake call, like Coleman and Coltrane then go on to rebel, break out them euro conventional shackles, and create some incredible anti conventional shyt.

yup, exactly why blues was so groundbreaking: It broke all the rules of Western harmony

The Blues form is so elastic, you can almost compose any kind of music to it

Yup, most ados JAZZ musicians by the bebop era knew classical theory but they all (the great ones) preferred to make sure the foundations stayed in Blues harmony/tonality but many also in those days, refused to learn how to read musical notation/learn western harmony because they believed it would kill their natural soulfulness.

music theory is just a another term used in a field of art for the pretentious and elitist to use.

white people love to craft terms and sub categories around to have some form of upper elitist pseudo intellectual art.
if you notice they do this in hip hop, white fans love to makeup all sorts of BS arbitrary rules in rap to.

they just have a tendency to do this in all forms of art

A way to get some kind of leverage, when you lack the soul required to do so organically:mjlol:

original pioneers learned "music theory" because they granddaddy sat them down on the front porch and taught them the guitar

these nikkas trying to do some science lab "pinky and the brain" type shyt:mjlol:

They were using music theory.
The problem is White Supremacy doesn't believe in music THEORIES just MUSIC THEORY as
based on WHITE Musicians from three damn centuries ago.

However, the "Blues" has it's own distinct approach to music, it has it's own THEORY and BODY OF KNOWLEDGE.

My guyz 12Tone also had something to do to this conversation:

Yup, most ados JAZZ musicians by the bebop era knew classical theory but they all (the great ones) preferred to make sure the foundations stayed in Blues harmony/tonality but many in those days refused to learn how to read musical notation/learn western harmony because they believed it would kill their natural soulfulness.
But at the same time you had guys like Coltrane, Monk, Davis, Duke Ellington and many
more who weren't just "learned" in music theory, they were exceptionally knowledgeable in it.

Davis went to Julliard and basically there was nothing left for the guy to learn so he just left.
Ellington was playing piano from a young man until the day he died.
He was an exceptionally accomplished composer as well as improviser.
Coltrane ? Breh knew "Music theory" inside and out and he could play
conventional (at the time) Jazz and he could improvise exceptionally well.

There are many others who fit into this mold.
Barry Harris THE GAWD:

Exceptionally learned in music theory to the point he's basically created a method/system
for improvising that that goes against the convention 2-5-1 stuff most learn when learning Jazz.

David Baker (composer) - Wikipedia <--- One of the first people to try to codify and "explain" Jazz.
Also an exceptionally learned musician.

There are several others I could name but the goal for all of them was to explain Jazz using the only theory they knew, which is old CPP music theory. However this theory had to be
modified and expanded to explain Jazz and blues to the point that Jazz has it's own separate and distinct school of thought.

The problem to reiterate what I stated earlier isn't that there's "music theory", it's that there were individuals who outright dismiss anything that doesn't conform to "Music Theory" based on old white dudes (some of which had some dope shyt IMO)
