Genuine question, just looking for direction on this subject. Especially regarding wudu and is it necessary for water to reach your scalp.

I heard they look at it as unclean not as in hygiene but belonging to pagans when you look at Hindu Gods for example like shiva they have locks. At least in the bible you can point to Samson but I don't think Samson is in the Quran.

I’ve heard this too and heard another brother say it’s an imitation of non-muslims

I know it sounds cliche but Islam (and other beliefs) are in your heart. Dreads are “dunya” and have nothing to do with prayer and good deeds (ie a clean heart. The Quran will tell u what is and is not haram.
Good question tho :ehh: I’ve heard cats say Musa (Moses) had dreads but who knows really.

Just depends on your intentions

Doubt you have any bad intentions for growing dreads

Yeah
As salaamu alaikum,

I’m in no position to give a fatwa on this, but I would suggest that as long as they don’t involve fades or any sort of undercut designs then there shouldn’t be a problem.

Also take into consideration that we should avoid imitating the kuffar, so your niya behind the style should be taken into account, one that is ultimately between you and Allah SWT.

Also be sure to obstain from tying the hair back during the salah. I found references to a few hadiths concerning this, but I’ve been trying my best to only refer to material that I can access myself as well - there a few hadith like this one
Hadith - Book of Call to Prayers (Adhaan) - Sahih al-Bukhari - Sunnah.com - Sayings and Teachings of Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه و سلم) That address the matter.

Make sure that you are able to reach the scalp when washing your hair during ghusl as well.

At best, you can always just leave certain matters that bring about such doubt altogether.

Allah knows best.
