my friend's diesel car ran out of diesel and when we got her some, car still wouldnt start. we had to go back up to get a wrench or something to let the air out of the line. so i got a wrench/screwdriver tool that i keep with me.

I live in an area where everything is a phone call away if I'm in that much trouble. If I'm traveling, I'm not doing it in a car that obviously isn't fit for long distance drives.

For the everyday person in a populated city, all you should need is one of those emergency kits they sell at Walmart. It comes with first aid, jumper cables, flares, gloves, blanket, etc.

how the hell do you carry gas in your trunk safely?

there is a new product out that takes the flammable product out of gas and you keep it in your car if it breaks down and will give you enough fuel for miles to get to a gas station. My local new channel did review on a car and lawnmower with no gas and it worked good...

I keep the standard jumper cables, jack, extra clothes, thermal,boots, that tool that can cut a seat belt and punch out the windows,etc. But in a backpacks I have my survival gear. candles ( a lit candle can increase temp of car 10 degrees), matches, flint and striker,cotton balls dipped in Vaseline (tinder), first aid kit, 9 inch full tang knife, small knife sharpener,iodine for water purification,tarp, fishing hooka and line, duct tape, compass, leatherman multi tool,stainless steel water container and stainless steel container for holding candle or anything hot, coffee jar with toilet paper soaked in rubbing alcohol, paracord, extra water and granola bars, extra cash in small denominations, crank operated eton radio/flashlight,gloves, folding saw and hat. Yeah seems a lot, but it all fits into 1 backpack and I am ready for anything.
