no control over be your cuture?* (end of title)

@The HONORABLE SKJ

I thought Ice Cube "started this gangster shyt"

He forgot to mention Bryan Turner and Jerry Heller were more instrumental than he was but I every time I turn around I'm being told by Coli Bretheren that hip hop is our culture..

How is it ours when we never owned it?

don't own it now?

and may never own it in the future?

"Is this the mother fu_ thanks we get?"

There is a difference between the roots/street level and the corporate commercial level.

Explain?

Which level plays an imperative role

Also, when you study the genre's roots it was youth driven (for youth) as where today, the most important artists are grown men masquerading as children.

Connect the dots for me, it's beginning to feel like minorities are playing themselves identifying with something they don't own. Seem's very dangerous

i think everybody has something they identify with that they don't own. example, should i no longer say im nigerian just because the country is more likely ran by white corporations?

Identifying with an ethnic group that you're born into can't be equated to being exploited by a culture you claim but never had any stake in ownership in.. I'm not talking owning shares either

big difference

It's self explanatory. It's like saying Jazz wasn't "Black" culture because it was mass produced pop during the Swing era and the mainstream industry was controlled by "whites".

please dont confuse hip hop with gangster rap

nothing wrong with gangster rap

That's art. Artists have the right to be artistic. The director of The Godfather is considered a mastermind. I'm not attacking art this thread is about the business.

Why doesn't Lyor Cohen or Jimmy Ivione or Bryan Turner walk around with body guards?
