As a general rule, ask for help when need it. Ppl try to low key shame you, as if asking for help is a sign of weakness... that's just insecurity speaking. I ask for help even I don't need it sometimes.

- makes it easier to gauge my skill level compared coworkers/management
- ppl see me as less of a threat to their job, especially when I'm gunning for them
- makes it easier to form relationships
- you'll actually learn something

These dame benefits apply outside the job in regular ppl to ppl interactions.

The most important reason to ask for help when on the job is to protect your ass. If you fukk you or are late on a project but you've sent multiple written requests for assistance, its no longer just your problem. Management fukked up and everyone will be looking at them. Some Indian cac supe tried to play me in my role. I had receipts and confirmations from several coworkers that I was, seemingly, purposely ignored. I switched teams, my performance skyrocketed, that Indicac was pulling the same shyt to another worker and they got rid of his ass.

Yeah, I recently moved to a new job and was having similar issues, thinking I could figure things out myself and ending up taking more time on tasks that should be done in better time.

My manager got in touch and said there is no shame in reaching out if I don't know something. He knows this industry is new to me, so my asking should not be seen as 'wrong'.

I've got to say his a good manager. His whole ethos is if the whole team is doing well, his doing well. This is my 2nd month on the job and now I'd rather show initiative and ask a question in the slack chat and get a response asap. Than spend an hour faffing about. The result is I get my work done faster and I'm picking up info and tips from people who've been doing this job for longer, win/win for me.

He was doing shoutouts in the chat yesterday before he took PTO for the rest of the month and he shouted me out for coming on board and doing the hard work needed to learn.

it also helps that people like me. If you're an ass most people won't go that extra mile to help you out.

How you gonna ROFL with a hollow back?
I hate to see people lose their gigs, unless they are scumbags. I was a hiring manager at one point, and I trust everyone until they give me a reason not to. I have been involved with the on boarding process, and even though I’m senior management now, and I don’t have to, I still try to do a couple complete on boards a month, to make sure I can still do it, to see if anything has changed, and to still get to know some of the folks that work for my company. I am familiar with all the grief that goes along with firing someone after the probation period, and how much it sucks to have gone through all the on boarding to just lose the person you invested man hours in, to just cut them loose. In my company, everybody knows that you better have a good reason, multiple warnings, and a PIP before you get rid of someone, it has to be approved by me, and it keeps my managers honest, and also exposes the trainers to whether or not they are doing their job. If your friend didn’t get any warnings, that is bullshyt, but I am in a completely different industry, so I don’t know how it works in tech. I hope she lands on her feet, especially during the holidays, that shyt, as a manager, pisses me the fukk off.

One of the things they emphasize in developer jobs I've worked is always ask for help if you need it. Do not just sit there stuck and when it comes time to produce you have nothing to show for it. Even if you think you're bothering people, you need to suck it up and ask for help because at the end of the day, the task needs to be done.

Now, typically people are talked to or allowed some time to adjust, especially if new. Then usually you're put on PIP if you fail to improve. The only time I've seen someone let go like that is when it's obvious the person is lacking in the fundamentals so badly that no matter how much you help this person they are too deficient in knowledge and skill that either they lied about their qualifications or they are simply inept to an unacceptable degree. You sure your coworker didn't match this description?

She was a python developer on the team. Im a BA.

it didnt get fukked too bad. Its just that she kept carrying work from sprint to sprints .
Yeah if she is missing targets during each sprint over and over, AND didn't even ask for help to get over those hurdles that is not going to play well. One, she not only didn't finish work during a sprint, she did it multiple times AND she refused to ask for help to prevent it from happening again.

Sucks she lost her job but she can learn from this going forward and she needs to change her behavior. I have noticed that for all the talk about gender discrimination in the work place, and it does exist especially in this field, I also notice that a lot of the women who come in this field are way too passive. Im not saying everyone has to be the same but I noticed women in this field are much less assertive and it's typically they are more quiet and shy than women in other fields. So, when they need help or they are having an issue they are less likely to be direct or open about it and it hurts them career wise. Whether we like it or not, corporate work is a lot of bullshytting and "networking" aka popularity contests and that determines the trajectory of your career than pure merit. The personality types of a lot of women in this field puts them at a disadvantage in that regard.

fukk corporate...going through litigation right now cuz of it. i work for myself now
Yep. So sick of working for corporations. They stay trying to get over on you, but want to blow anything out of proportion that’s a slight deviation from their unspoken rules.

I’m also suing the bytches I work for. They picked the wrong one fukking with me. Ever since they got served they’re pretending to be fair. I already have my next job lined up and after that I’m working for myself.

Had to learn this the hard way as well. The company just wants the task completed, so when I made the work about myself and a litmus test for my skill level, everyone suffered. When I just reached out, I was more productive

I would need to know more about the actual work and the breh to give a more confident answer so....the only thing you can control in your situation is how you respond. Leave, blow up on the nikka or take it on the chin. Only one of those will get you paid and job experience.

If you decide to stay, talk to him about your performance in your next meeting. Better yet, take the initiative suggest a meeting asap. Ask about you need to work on and if he gives a bunch of vague nonsense, you know where you stand with him. Either way , be humble and approach this assuming you're the problem. Even if its not true.

If this dude really is your friend, he's probably ODing it so you will take him and the job more seriously. Call his bluff. Treat him like supervisor. His attitude will change around you.
@ the bolded is exactly what I'm doing. He's a manager, no longer a friend, I'm the problem or one of them and once I find another job, 2 weeks notice, great working with y'all then blocking his number.

I don't need to talk to him about anything. I'm copesthetic with my peace. This niqqa even wants me to stay after work and pretend I'm still working for free amongst a bunch of other ass kissing ish. I'm smiling and keeping it cordial, gotta interview Monday to.

Goofy ass niqqa even ask me if I even like my job, smh.

no warnings, no writeups.

yes her work is contingent on other task to be completed. But my manager likes to hurry tasks along or fins ways to hurry tasks along. So quite a few of tasks have been underestimated.
Yeah but as employee you speak up or straight up tell them u can’t hit deadlines because they’re unreasonable. I’ve had to do this recently to check one of my bosses because they were fukking up my timetables. Don’t let them dictate things and make sure they understand ur pushing back because u want to do the work correctly and need more
Time to do that
