Ehhh nah. That "we shall overcome"/"kumbaya"/"turn the other cheek" golden rule belief that gets forced on us doesn't really get anywhere. Even when we do those things people still treat our people poorly. If our behavior was reflective of how we treated others we wouldn't catch hell 24/7. In that scenario, I would've kept it a buck with them honestly. And he's in the Bay area so it's not that hard to find better restaurants rather than eating clumps of vegetables and meat on top of injera.

I work as a courier for a side gig and I noticed this too with foreign restaurants like OP said. They trip over themselves to greet the white customers, but you get treated differently. I haven't been to an East African restaurant in my area (not sure if we have one here), but I've had similar experiences.
Greek restaurants, Chinese restaurants, sushi restaurants. I'm not even a patron and they give me attitude. Can't imagine what it would be like to actually eat there.
This is one of the main reasons I cook my own meals and avoid restaurants like the plague.

Don't let it deter you this just seems like general everyday restaurant bs/politics/run a round whatever you want to call it....Its a tricky matter but a lot of it comes down to basic misunderstandings and how you interpret it especially when it comes to ethnic places.....I personally know Ethiopians who have told me they only go to one or two restaurants cause they get treated like shyt at the majority of the rest unless they know someone who works there or come with a group of non-ethi friends...I know AA's who tell my they love it cause of how social the food is and great the service is...Different experiences
...I was just at this Caribbean restaurant/bar with my homegirl couple blocks from my house and we where 
on the low at how nonchalant and abrupt the service was....But we expected it plus the food was decent and we where unbothered from freely conversating so that was good enough for us......

One of my favorite Caribbean reasturants out here literally acted like I was invisible when Cacs walked in. I built up a decent repport with them over the years since it was near my job and they knew me by name. That didn't stop them from looking past me the entire time in favor of cacs

Ive been their numerous times and noticed the same thing...
Most of the Ethiopian Restuarants in the bay have bad service for the most part though.
You are better off going to Ensarro, but that place is kind of terrible service as well, food is better than FinFine though and the black ethiopian owners at least greet you and treat you with respect, just really slow unorganized service.
Fin Fine though, those two fags definitely dont like black folks.
