Do alot of Haitians live in france

?
Anyway was always told black people who live in France live in extreme poverty. Never been there though.
Not as many as one may think due to history, or precisely because of it, go figure. I think as a group Haitians have more moved to other countries in the Americas, mainly Canada (iirc they're deep in Montréal) and the US. I don't think there's ever been a massive migration of Haitians, the few that I've met all seem to be students/writers/etc who move here for a couple years as opposed to other groups who have been here for various generations. When you talk about african immigration you're already on the 3rd or sometimes even 4th generation.
Extreme poverty it depends, you also have significants parts of the Black population that are doing just fine. Buying houses, having businesses, travelling, just living an old regular life. Obviously it's not all good as structural discrimination is very much present at all levels and indeed if you go to the worst areas you're likely to see black people over-represented.
For obvious historical reasons there's a long-standing Black presence in France and particularly in Paris, going back to students coming from the colonies pre 1960 (the Césaire, Senghor, Nardal etc generation that created the whole Négritude movement...that's when Baldwin and other Black Americans were coming over here too) then with the more massive immigration for work and now the children (and grand-children) of those who migrated here long-term. So yeah naturally a "Black Paris" has emerged, not necessarily a specific place (even though you indeed have the Chateau d'Eau area) but also with all kinds of cultural events, restaurants, bookstores, all kinds of collectives organizing movie festivals, art exhibitions, conferences, parties, etc. I'm not really into the "real" club scene but you've got all that too. If you go outside of Paris you'll find some
cités with a more Black presence but tbh I haven't been in years. And then you have more regular middle-class
banlieues with black people, just because it's way cheaper than living inside Paris.
