The slumming around reminds me of my uncle from Richmond, who's in his mid 60s as well. Trying to save his house and going through a messy divorce , staying with my mom 75 miles away .
He's been there since February. His family has disowned him, only asking for him to pay for the house's mortgage he's trying to get from them in the first place. His soon to be ex wife, my aunt, has a restraining order on him till 2020.
What's the most fukked up about this is that my mom has been handling all the work with his legal issues because he's one of those old school dudes who was used to just working as the breadwinner while the wife and kids handled all of the bills
He's acting like he can't do anything without my mom, his sister.
It's infuriating to me because he was a piece of shyt to my mom and our family for YEARS and he's not making much effort HIMSELF to handle all of his problems , which have become her burden. For he has burned all of the bridges with our relatives in the Bay Area, where all of his problems lay.
I cut off my cousins (his daughters) for how they treated him. He was homeless for two weeks before my mom picked him up . She thought he was going to be staying for a "couple of weeks"
Until all of his shyt my mom has to do for him is over and he's out of her house,
Christmas and Thanksgiving. I don't want him involved with MY FAMILY traditions whatsoever.
Anyway, carry on . I had to vent for a second about this

OP this shyt reads like a horror story.
But for real, you got a good heart. I think if your unc knew better his situation would be better. I don't see anything wrong with you helping him (although I don't have the family dynamic where I would be giving an uncle weed and alcohol.) I do think you should let him know that while you are extending him hospitality, he needs to be respectful of your space and wash his hands and sleep in the room you designated for him.
