There should be a mental health check.

Everyone would fail because no sane person would own a dog that would kill their newborn on a whim

There should also be a space/land requirement

I thought about that but it wouldn’t be fair to people living in say, NYC type environments. As long as they have earned their license to own one, they then get the same benefit of doubt that they will also exercise that dog and let it have its space in the parks, as other NYC dog breed owners are given.

I'm taking my pit to the shelter tomorrow. I have an appointment. He's not yet 2yrs old and he's pretty good dog. Just don't have time to hear him barking for no good reason to me. And that fact that he has eternal beef with the dogs next door and he's usually chained up, inside the house due to his destruction. But yeah he's a real good dog. Pitbull/Bully mix.

experienced dogmen have been saying for this decades. they’ve been saying that most of the people who have these dogs shouldn’t, and before someone gets one they should have to be certified to have one.

Damn, for real? I swear I never heard it anywhere prior to now, I just kinda came up with the idea in the wake of that 6 year old girl being attacked in that thread yesterday. There was the predictable anti-pitbull ignorance, as there is in this thread, and I just thought there has to be a way to co-exist with these dogs while reducing the chances of them falling into the hands of irresponsible people. Since people refuse to comprehend that PITBULLS are not the problem the PEOPLE who own them are the problem. I think if we can better regulate who owns the breed we will no doubt decrease the number of attacks and tragedies attributed to them. It’s dope to know that it’s something that has also been considered by experienced dog professionals for years now.

When I say dogmen I mean people intimately familiar with that particular breed. honest dogmen been saying it because they never lied about what the breed is. It’s called a “working dog” today but it’s always been a fighting animal.

they were bred to be non aggressive towards humans because they had to be handled during their keep and in the pit. technically. But nobody was gonna put down a moneymaker because it was aggressive towards humans.

as the apbt became popular and alotta backyard breeders got involved for the money more of the old timers kinda spoke up about it.

about 95% of people who have these dogs shouldn’t. They’re not dog park dogs or meant to be cooped up in a small space like an apt.

All his “bad” behaviors are a product of his owner’s handling of him. Or lack thereof.

You, sir, would certainly not be issued a license :martin:
