Yes. A+ is useless. Find something in Networking like CCNA, in IT Security while trying to find a job in NOC, or programming. Several areas you can pick.
Also join 6 Figs, 6 Certs section. Lots of brehs willing to help.
If a breh only had there A+ but little to no experience outside of customer service, what would be your advice if they were looking to get an entry level IT job?

If your new to IT do it

In ref to the question you could easily get a Service Desk job, then from there you can decide what area of IT you want to go into.

Most start in Service Desk TBH

I done Service Desk > infrastructure > cloud support and infra and now studying my CEH to get into security

Check the cert thread us IT guys are there

If you already know IT and know the area you want you could do an entry level cert then go from there.

Google MVA pure free training by Microsoft there.

Customer Service experience + A+ = Help Desk Position. Keep applying, update your resume with keywords, and don't stop learning stuff to get wsomething higher than A+. CCNA and A+ are almost the same price, Security+ is even cheaper.

Thanks for this input, I ask because for about 3 months I’ve been in a career placement role at a non-profit that helps 18-25 get there A+ for free and now the first cycle is ending and I want to be as effecient as possible in narrowing down the opportunities that are realistic for them.

Agree, those job agencies search for cvs/resumes for active directory, exchange, sccm, office365, migrations

IT is a service, so there will always be jobs in any industry in both public and private sectors

That's good, breh. Check this out, it will give you an idea of what you can do in IT.
Best IT Certifications For 2018
It is not exhaustive, but it will give an overview of IT certifications. Find what you would like to do. It's important. You do not want to pick a path that you are going to hate few months in.

The only two worth getting are Network + or Security +

Helps when entering a netsec environment such as a SOC or some other network analysis.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

I got my A+ in october, have zero IT experience on the job, but pieced together experience from doing it as a hobby and helping with the rollout of thin clients
at my current job.

Since October 21, I've been offered 10 positions, even if 4 of them were Retail positions. Monday I sign papers to be an Information Technology Specialist
off the strength of my A+. As the head of IT said "Your resume is in front of me because of the A+".

Going for something like CCNA right out the gate will only get you into Help Desk, cause you still need experience. The only downside to A+ is its cost relative
to other certs. I say get that shyt and then assess from there.

The Truth
I would say skip it depending on what type of IT you're trying to do

If you are brandnew to computers in general then its good to study but ultimately doesn't mean shyt.

I have it, been had it for damn near 10 years and barely use it. I also had Sec+ and couldve gotten Net+ easily but more focused on CCNA and CISSP

All the CompTIA certs are useless outside of S+

To be fair thought ive never had any certs outside the CSM.

They are only good to have if you dont have a degree or experience. So many certs have bootcamps and braindumps that many people look at the average cert kinda sus.

The only exception is hyper elite certs like the CCIE
