Bunch of fukking idiots in here. 3/4 of whom probably don’t even have sex let alone have kids.

Most kids are not full on reading at 5. They may recognize words but reading random sentences etc is unlikely. The important thing at his age is that he knows the sounds that the letters make, and then in Kindergarten they will start teaching the concept of syllables and then putting them together to form words.

make sure he’s being read to every nite and if you’re really concerned ask his teachers regarding his progress.

the internet is one of the best and worst things to ever happen. It fuks up a lot of kids bc parents try to attain shyt that they read/saw someone post about their own kids - meanwhile these mfers lying their asses off trying to flex as the perfect parents of the perfect kids even though they’re in a loveless and sexless marriage and their kid is barely potty trained :mjlol:
This.

In my country, the norm is to have mastered letters and how to spell your name at 7. You really start to learn how to read at this age. But judging by this thread, we must all be retarded :mjlol: (though we have a way better education system and the language is more difficult).

Not projecting to anyone in particular, but this seems akin to a regular basketball player trying to live the NBA dream through his son :hubie: I learned how to read towards 6-7, kids newspaper by 8 and full-on hundred pages books by 9. However, I frankly doubt a lot of posters in this forum performed better academically than me.

No worries. U don’t want to associate stress with learning at a young age as children internalize that and become discouraged— leading to a history of reinforced negative feelings associated with literacy.

Play word games, memory games, breaking words apart and focus on word sounds or phonemes to build phonemic awareness.
Ball ba-ah-lll
Clap it out. Blend it together...Baaallll

Ball! Play little games and have hand gestures associated with blending dipthlongs and digraphs or letters and word sounds.

There are lots of fun games that can be used to reinforce early literacy skills.

He seems to be struggling with phonemic awareness of recognizing word parts. Take him places and point out lots of words and have him repeat the word parts back to you. Even harder words. Avoid talking slowly or baby talk. U are important and he wants ur attention so that provides motivation for his brain to catch up to your older adult words. Also incorporate the use of high interest texts. The desire to read is motivational. Meaning if kids derive pleasure from it, they will seek out opportunities for it again and again. I still remember the smell of my library growing up b/c they were beautiful. Graphic novels, hero stories, fables, epic tales for kids use all of those.
He should be in a literature rich environment with books EVERYWHERE.

Also is he writing yet? Even if it’s ugly, start getting him to write. Different parts of the brain are activated when writing and the struggle helps us commit knowledge to our working memory. The more we do it, the more likely it is committed to long term memory. And as we derive pleasure from it, we seek more opportunities to do it and become good at it which is reinforcement in and of itself.

Otherwise the little guy is fine as long as ua’ll are exposing him to a lot of rich experiences, books and daily conversation and play instruction.

You've got to be a whole fukking idiot to think that you need a child to point out a child underdeveloped by a certain age. I mean an entire fukking idiot. :mjlol:
But keep thinking about my dikk though fakkit. I won't be surprised that your son won't turn into fruitcake like his daddy while he being taught to read by a tranny because his weak ass daddy was too busy daydreaming about dikk.

Again with the gay shyt. You gotta be a special kind of pedo ass nikka to be the only muthafukka in a thread about children talking about sucking dikk. I don't expect much from a nikka that learned to read at the age that most of us had already moved on to creative writing. But I did expect more of a black man supposedly raising a black child in this world.

Does he know his alphabet and recognize the letters?

They normally teach basic reading in kindergarten.

I just asked my sister who has a bachelors in Early Childhood Development and works with kids that are not developing as they should before they go to kindergarten and she said the child should be reading by the end of Kindergarten.

Anything earlier is a plus but when they leave kindergarten they will be able to read or more then likely be held back.

MOST kids learn to read around 6 or 7. There's nothing wrong with not being able to read at 5...but your child should be beginning to learn by that age at least. I'm often struct by how much more advanced young white children's vocabulary are when compared to many young black children. A lot of this is parental interaction. You have to be reading to your child. You have to be talking to your child. It's essential.

My mom would make me read books to her. She'd get a list of books that had won awards (Newbery Medals for instance). There were a surprisingly diverse group of books to choose from going back decades. Some of the ones I remember with black authors or stories were MC Higgins The Great, by Virginia Hamilton; and Scorpions, by Walter Dean Myers. Initially I didn't like reading to my mother, but as the books became more interesting and challenging to me it really became a joy.

Also I think it's very important that you aren't just teaching kids to read...you should also be conditioning and training them to comprehend what they're reading. From a young age. Asking your kid what they thought of a particular character, asking why a character was happy or sad, asking if something that happened in the book reminded them of something that has happened in real life, etc.
