First off, I have to say, there is nothing wrong with a black man with a guitar...

Also, talking "white" is more of a tone of voice, rather than articulation and vocab. As long as his voice isn't super high/corny than he is fine.

I went to a 90% affluent white/Jewish private school my entire life, lived in a jewish neighborhood in Minneapolis. Your parents really should force your brother in positions that keep him balanced. As a youngin, my folks made me play on inner city football teams with kids who lived a tougher life than myself(most black). They also never moved out of the city to the burbs. This in turn instilled in me a desire to seek out blacks to hang out with as I got older. In highschool I hung out with black athletes from other high schools who were in similar situations than me as well as having a close group of white cronies in my school. Also, black folks from each grade in my school would always gravitate towards eachother as well because we had a common understanding.

Overall, going to a mostly white high school could be a great experience that teaches you how to interact with people of different races and backgrounds.

However, it would be a complete waste if your bro spends his time around white people so much that he has a hard time interacting with other people of different backgrounds(especially blacks). That wouldn't be progression whatsoever.... He would be moving backwards...

The goal in going to those schools isn't to become sheltered and ignorant like a lot of kids there... It is supposed to expand your palette.

Thanks to my time in tis school and around a lot of these families, etc. I feel comfortable moving within a crowd of affluent non black people with no problem. At the same time I can relate to the poorest individual and find a common ground for joyful interaction.

As for his personal interests, that's his business...but I say that as someone that was a metal/rock head in high school even though I got picked on for it--I learned to not care because I got the importance of being an individual and not giving a fukk what people around me say.

The important thing is that he doesn't turn into a self hating negro and knows how to connect with his people and that it's OK to have Black friends and that he SHOULD have Black friends. He needs racial pride. You can help him with that if you have an open and honest discussion with him about what he's doing to himself and his life. His personal interests are his business.

If he's at 90% white school 5 days a week it makes sense he's acting the way he Does. Just like if a white guy was at in a similar position going to a 90 % black school.
