My hard drive has been acting up for a while now but I never replaced it cause the computer still did what I needed it to do

Downloaded the newest update the other day and now it won't go past the startup screen :mjcry:

What is it showing? Just stays at the apple logo? Question Mark? Folder?

Cant do anything it just stays on the initial loading screen with the logo
It sounds like the hdd is dead, how long did you let it run before you are shutting it down?

You might have to reboot into recovery to use utilities and attempt to repair the drive, but I would order a new drive ASAP. What model of the MBP do you have?

Yeah those are easy to replace. Hopefully you have the latest firmware and everything up to date.

Are you on El Capitan? If you are...just grab a small SSD if you don't need a lot of space. Breathe some new life into that machine, I believe that MBP can go up to 16GB of RAM and might be worth it if you think you are going to stick with it for a while.

Yeah its up to date it crashed after i downloaded the newest update...probably downloaded to to the dead part of the hard drive
Dont plan on buying any laptop after this so im going to upgrade the ram and hard drive eventually
I got a smartphone and tablet i mostly use which is why i didnt make replacing the hard drive sooner a priority

Try to repair it in recovery before buying anything. I do recommend an SSD though as it will make a big difference with an older macbook.
