My NYC Black Folk......Gentrification

You sure? I always hear about woodside being the next target. I believe about being the only black person there, it's seems nice and fun without the riffraff

I went to school in Sunnyside/Woodside, it's like suburban paradise without the filthy CACness or being isolated in the middle of nowhere

awesome mix of asian (korean/bengali), spanish, working class white people. these are the types of neighborhoods upwardly mobile people living in bad places should aspire to

Yeah I'm not understanding this idea that these hipsters have to be friendly or integrate into the overall community. These type of arguments have often been used against immigrants, hell in some neighborhoods in NYC they are still used against new immigrants.

But those "arguments" by others was a mask to hide behind their racism.

And if there's one thing I know and have ALWAYS said about Trinis from my old site is that they're the most welcome people I know.

Out of all the island folks I know, Trinis always let me into their homes.

Morris Heights aint even that hood, it's just beside tremont so it get lumped in.... Parkchester, Unionpoint Castle Hill, etc all good areas. J-lo is from castle hill.

Those arguments were also made by people of the same race and ethnicity. My parents are Black Guatemalans and the African-Americans and Ricans in my old neighborhood used to think they were uppity and too often kept to themselves, when it had more to do with the fact that my parents felt that they already had their own sense of community and didn't feel it neccesary to go out of their way to chop it up with their neighbors. Now me and my sisters were more comfortable, but then again we were all born and raised in the neighborhood. Overall to be honest I find hipsters annoying for a variety of reasons, but the fact that they would rather keep to themselves is not something I have an issue with.

The "new" south, in the major cities is filled with black folk in the middle class. There are also some goons in certain spots, I can't lie. Seriously, it is far too late for black folk in NYC to fight against gentrification cause the main problems (rent outta control, lack of ownership, ignorant ass oldheads, etc) should have been managed from within decades ago. Now you see what happens when nikkas are more proud of the murders and "realness" and the crack era of their hoods more than the college educated people that actually make moves.

This is true but the south will never be run by blacks. Ever. We have no power there. By leaving the north we create a power vaccum.

If blacks had power up north our neighborhoods wouldn't be overrun by "hipsters"

Plus I think down South is where all of those black elite organizations are based. And there is just strength in numbers + economics, both of which we are stronger at in the South. We are only 12% of the country so barring something unlikely we will never be a dominating power. But we have much more economic freedom and deeper legacies in the South. I mean an avg black family has no chance in a place like NYC. Hell the avg American family has no chance here which is kind of a fundamental problem. In the south at least a black family has a realistic opportunity to not only survive but create wealth + a legacy. Its from that base that economic + political power are built.

Those are the only nice areas in the borough. Everywhere else is the hood. Back blocks with some new row houses don't change the facts that crime is still high and shyt is still fukked up in the neighborhood as a whole.

To be fair Gun Hill Rd from like 210 st on is okay, not saying it's beautiful but you'll be straight. Olinville is okay too, and over by the last stop of the 2 train is alright too.
