I just don't understand how much the 90s Knicks get so cysed when they didn't win a damn thing.![]()
It's a legitimate "you had to be there"...peep the way these cats reminisce about the Garden when it consistently had good teams.

We need to build a wallShout out to the Hawks fans keeping this thread up top while their season thread ain't even on the first page...wait, do they have a thread or is this a Coli refugee crisis?![]()

I've got this vivid memory of John Starks staring down at his jersey before tip-off and, maniac that he was, straight screaming "New York" into his own chest. I stay searching youtube for that clip and have never seen it, I can't even say that ish wasn't a dream. But I remember it as one of my first Knicks memories and the one that sticks out the most for my love of this franchise. All of that is to say that as much as we cheer on the 90's Knicks for being good teams and hard workers, for being tough as nails without ever letting up...at the heart of all of that was their pride in the words across the front of the jersey.
Tonight's tip off and my excitement for this season isn't because I assume we'll win some designated number of games that means success. It's not an expectation of the playoffs or the presence of former MVP's and allstars on this roster. The reason I'm most hype for this season is that this collection of players is here just as much because they get to be KNICKS as it is anything else.
Lee and Noah took paycuts to be here (even with the bloated salary Noah got, he signed while every rumor had the Wizards ready to make him an offer he couldn't refuse).
Rose thanked his home for life for the trade and the first image of him in NYC is looking in awe at his image at MSG.
Jennings wanted to be a Knick since the night he was drafted into the NBA and spent all summer celebrating the fact that he's finally arrived.
Lance Thomas came back with unfinished business. KOQ is a New Yorker who wanted to play for his hometown team. KP wanted the Knicks to draft him blatantly. Melo could have joined Rose and Noah years ago if he'd been willing to leave home.
These cats know what the Garden can be and they know what the New York fan base is like. We'll treat you like a king (literally if you look at old Bernard King photos) but if you fold mentally we'll eat you alive. This is the first team in a long time that I've seen show the sort of Knick pride and excitement that it takes to not just play well...but to thrive in this city. They might not be the super team and they've got two nightmare opponents in their own division to compete with. But I have zero doubt that these guys are going to go out there and go HARD! These dudes are going to show up with the fire of Noah, enthusiasm of KP, hunger of Rose, experience of Melo and reliability of Lee...with a competent coach for the first time in a couple of years by the way. Health will always be scary and they STILL haven't played together as a complete unit. But I'm still more excited for this squad than any team we've had in the Melo era, 54 win veteran squad included. That's because this team FEELS like a New York team, they have the characteristics that I identify with Knicks success and as long as they're going out there hungry, angry and proud of the name at the front of the jersey...on that screaming "New York" before the game even starts type anger, hunger and pride...I feel like I'll remember this one for a long time.
