in my county testing is readily available, you just either have to make an appointment, or be willing to wait for an hour+ in your car.

but here if a kid tests positive for they only get 5 days excused before they have to go back. Regardless of whether they are still positive at the end of those 5 days.

No logic behind why you would force a kid who is still positive to come back to school just because they have no symptoms.

I think your theory about school funding is spot on, I also they think they are trying to suppress the numbers that show up on the weekly “quarantined students / staff” report they have to release

My son had it too but I didn’t get it and he was all over the crib. He is still testing positive three weeks later but they said he’s not contagious.
