What do you end up doing while they're gone?Not at all... My wife and kids use to go to VA for a week to see grandma and I'd wake up like it was Christmas morning when they were about to leave

Not really. The only thing that complicates it is the family issues. My wife had an emergency issue similar to yours some years ago and I kinda felt the same. A week away felt like it was needed but you wish it was under different circumstances.
