And it seems like the only way to have serious staying power is to start doing cac music like Rihanna and Doja did.

She could've been more popular than she is but as an artist you do have to make hard choices. She presumably has enough money to live comfortably for the rest of her life which is more than what most people will experience

I dont think she grew up poor,so the choices are a little easier to make. In the industry,they often find girls who they can threaten with poverty,or going back to a miserable life.

Behind every artist who proclaims they didn't sell their soul you'll find albums that stopped selling, marketing dollars that stopped being spent, creative differences, personal addictions, etc. For Mya is seems a combination of creative differences and marketing dollars for her 3rd album.

Damage was done though reputation wise. Her leaving the mainstream industry plus two of the biggest rappers at that time throwing dirt on her name was always gonna hold weight. She also never married and to be honest a lot of people look at you a certain way if you are attractive but get near 40 without marrying so /shrug
