He str8 up said he'll hear a beat he KNOWS is gonna be a smash and will pass on it because of that and pick some iiight shyt and see what he can do with it

You literally said Nas said he would pick "not so good" beats. He NEVER said that. He said he would pick beats alot of times that other rappers wouldn't probably pick, almost like a challenge to him. You acting like he said he'd hear beats and he'd say "yea, that beat ain't good...let me get that one" :heh:

The funny thing is y'all nikkas posted videos of two rap acts that any nikka with objectivity would tell you Nas clearly had better beats than (Little Brother and Kool Kieth) trying to criticize his beat selection:mjlol:

Y'all love to scream Nas picks wack beats but go head and name at least 5 of the GOAT tier rappers who've had catalogs with better beats than Nas. I'm talking rappers that are routinely named in GOAT conversations. Go head. This'll be fun. And funny.

That’s kinda the problem. There’s rappers who aren’t even close to GOAT tier who have way better ears for beats than Nas. There’s no fukking reason why the Fat Joe’s and the Rick Ross’s should thoroughly wash him in terms of beat selection. If Rap was a prom, everyone would have bad bytches while Nas is going out with a 250 pound BBW with acne.

the Nas picks bad beats legend only grows when weaker rappers work with similar producers as Nas or guys who Nas should fukk with and get way better beats. It’s no different than when Eminem has Alchemist and Dr. Dre in his back pocket and kept settling on doing the beats himself or getting Alex Da Kid.

How is Fat Joe and Rick Ross having better beats than Nas Nas' problem? :russ:

Them 2 dudes have had better beats than Rakim, LL, Pac, Jay, Eminem, G Rap, Kane and a few other GOAT tier MCs but nikkas ONLY wanna mention Nas as some wack beat picker.:russ:

Why nobody ever says Pac picks wack beats? :stopitslime:

Or Ice Cube? :stopitslime:

NOBODY alive, and walking on God's green Earth, is telling me those 2 had a better catalog of album beats than Nas.

If rap was a prom them other GOATs would be walking around with fat broads with acne right along with Nas.

And that's the whole point: Nas isn't any worse than any of his critical peers, and if you look at his albums against most of them beat for beat he's even better. This whole "Nas picks wack beats" shyt is fallacy, wack and played out.

Nas is my favorite rapper most days ..i go back and forth 1a 1b with ghostface ...he definitely picks trash beats The 4 songs in the first post are 3 wack beats and one mid level beat..It used to bug me out to here people like lil Kim would have fire beats and Nas rhyme over the beats he did ...

Just to name 5 rappers who I think can rap and have way better beats ...50 cent Jay z Prodigy Ghostface and Camron come to mind without trying too hard to think about it

Because it feels like anytime they have a fire beat, it’s something that Nas coulda killed but he’s too busy “challenging” himself.

For NASIR, you’re telling me Nas went to Bumblefukk, Wyoming, scrapped whatever he was working on, heard all this other piff being produced for Pusha T, Kids See Ghosts, Teyana Taylor, etc., heard Cops Shot The Kid and went “That’s the one!? :gladbron:

Yea but these other GOATs ain't rhyming over those Fat Joe and Rozay beats either. What dope ass beats Jay passed up to rhyme over those mostly trash ass Kingdom Come and Magna Carter beats? What dope ass beats Cube passed up to rap over those trash beats he rapped over in the latter part of his rap career? See my point? We can do this with EVERY GOAT. Why Nas the only one ever mentioned? There's literally hundreds of far inferior rappers who have better ear for beats than most the nikkas who are mentioned as GOAT contenders.

His beat selection isn't the worst but a lot of them are just a few steps away from being good. Hip Hop is Dead has some decent beats, but coupled with him just rapping his song idea and his verse no one mastermind behind each track or trying to make a unique song holds it all back.

This beat isn't bad but it's average and repetitive, he's rapping too much. You heard the first 10 seconds of the song you heard the whole song. bassline NEVER changes. No one is going back to listen to that except his hardcore fans.

Then he tries something new with this Detective Bullshyt song and no producer got him to reign it in. The lyrics hardly match the pace of the beat or the mood. Nas is a great writer but he needed a great producer to help him.

:stopitslime:

Check out Black Republican.

Simple song structure, but the beat has legs, not just 4 bars and repeats. Obviously Jay has an ear for this type of stuff his flow and emotion matches the song. Nas raps for only 40 seconds and just spits. It may be a Nas track featuring Jay on a Nas album but that's a Jay-Z song.

Compare that to Kendrick where his beats have a variety his flow is varied so it's not just him spitting his verse. He puts emotion behind it, his verse and production match each other. This isn't a mistake or a random event it took work. From the intro it creates a long structure, the beat doesn't switch up too much but the bassline has variety, beat drops and voice flow give it variety.

Nas isn't alone in this. Check a lot of rappers from 97-2008. A beat and a few bars, that's all they had. That shyt won't get play now.

When people say Nas has trash beats, it's a simplified way of saying his songs are repetitive and terrible production.

Yeah I would say so ....Back in the iPod era I would have to take 4/5 Nas albums and pick through the songs just to make like a 15/20 song playlist ..he has crazy ass rhymes over some terrible beats ..I could get through a cam or 50 ablum way easier then a full Nas album ... I don't want to slander Nas but he picks trash beats nobody ever freestyled over his beats during the mixtape era that I can think of besides when Jadakiss spit over stillmatic intro

Its a tired narrative and its bizarre that it still comes up in recent years when the general consensus of his last 3 studio albums was the beats arent the problem. Even Nasir as a underwhelming rushed project didnt have bad beats just not too many fire fire ones (and that might be a circimstance of the mixing done on the day) but the reviews said the beats were fine. Then you have Life is Good and King's Disease and those beats are praised

You'd really have to go back over a decade for this to still be an issue and even in that era he still had his share of good beats like the street singles he cooked with Salaam
