Nas is the undisputed GOAT right now, his albums have held up the best over time some have gotten better with time like Hip Hop Is Dead, the Production is CRISP and holds up till this day unlike many of Jay-Z albums

I mean the Kanye era Rocafella tracks did not age well, especially compared to the Just Blaze tracks, which all held up and sound crisp and new, while all of Kanye's rocafella tracks sound faded and old, drums sound terrible, everything sounds muffled on his beats, which were carried bout the soul samples.

Illmatic Production of course still holds up this day, classic pure hip hop sound, the energy is the magical feeling while Hip Hop will never die

It was Written, Nas sell out tracks like I Rule the World still bang and sound rawer than anything today and those were his commerical tracks people called him a sell out for

I am, The shyt still bangs, Favor for a Favor, non sample beat still sounds fresh and the clarity is top notch, Nas is like is one of primo's best, Hate Me now is a classic of course, but we all know this three albums nobody as a problem with along with Stillmatic, lets get into his lesser received albums

Nastradamus, this album was pretty watched called wack and people thought Nas was finished, one of the biggest complaints were he production, but many tracks hold up

Not only are these beats good musically sound beats, the Sound Clinic and Mix are top notch, and still hold up till this day, you can turn them all the way up on any system and they sound prestine

when you listen to Blueprint 2, the production is lackluster by today's standards, shyt don't knock at all

Volume 3 and Volume 2, suffer the same thing, besides nikka What which is one of Timbo's best beats

Black Album which was my favorite Jay album, hasn't aged well, I mean the Just Blaze Tracks are still fire, and Encore still holds up, but Lucifer sounds like shyt, that Eminem beat was always wack, the Dirt of Shoulder sounds corny and the beat doesn't knock it all

The Quik Justify my Thug has a sick baseline, but Jay doesn't rock that beat all, and the hook is fukking terrible

nothing stands out on that album except for the Just Blaze Tracks, which are crisp and bang with clarity

Hip Hop is Dead was called a wack album for beats, but the beats are that album are fukking crazy

From musical stand point this is a beautiful, from an audio specific it's perfection crisp, everything is balanced and loud without being muffled

this goes to show most people don't know what they are talking about and aren't fans of music but the storylines and clout

Why turn this into Jay vs Nas Pt. 1,000,000,008? They don't even put energy into these comparisons any more. This same analysis of Nas's beat selection could've been made without ever mentioning Jay Z or Roc-A-Fella. Yes, the whole narrative that Nas's music suffers from wack beats is overstated, but the argument to disprove that holds more weight if the focus was placed solely on Nas's music and not comparing his music to Jay's.

Truthfully speaking, that's why the narrative exists in the first place. People compare the beats Nas raps over to beats other artists are rapping over from the same producers.

Post It Was Written, Nas beat selection, with a few exceptions, is very disappointing. This is dam near a fact in hip hop. Don't try to re-write.

No it's, you don't know shyt about production or shyt about music, people were immature and have immature taste, time has revealed Nas production is the best of any rapper his era because it holds up

You can Tupac tracks hold up the best, until you realize how much material he put out in a short time, and the classics are classic for a reason, and none of other shyt holds up

you have zero musical knowledge to give an opinion other than baseless tan parroting of what people said back then, not based on anything factual, I'm not disputing people said that stuff, I'm proving that they were wrong

Its not a fact, it's an overstatement. This is Nas albums post It Was Written:

I Am- NY State of Mind Pt. 2, Hate Me Now, Small World, We Will Survive,You Won't See Me Tonight, Nas Is Like,

Nastradamus- this is mostly subpar

Stillmatic- Intro, Ether, Got Ur Self A Gun, You're Da Man, 2nd Childhood, The Flyest, One Mic, What Goes Around, Every Ghetto

God's Son- Get Down, Made You Look, Last Real nikka Alive, Mastermind, Revolutionary Warfare, Dance, Heaven ----> low key one of his best produced albums

Street's Disciple- hit and miss

Hip Hop Is Dead- Money Over BS, Who Killed It, Black Republican, Still Dreamin, Let There Be Light, Hustlers, Play On Playa, Can't Forget About You, Hold Down The Block

Untitled- hit and miss

Life Is Good- one of his best produced albums. Only "Summer On Smash" and maybe "Reach Out" stand out as wack or subpar

Nasir- dope beats for the most part

King's Disease- his best produced album since IWW.

Top 5 dumbest posts I’ve seen
I don't know what to tell you then. You're either blind, ignorant, or just in denial. Apparently its something commonly said, or would OP have even started an thread on the topic. Sit down and think instead of just responding. I love Nas too. Probably has the greatest hip hop album EVER in Illmatic. But its been a common feeling over the past 20 years or so that his beat selection could be better. Get your mind right dude.

How the FUKK you gonna tell me what my taste should be? You sound stupid. Nas having disappointing beat selections post It Was Written has been said over and over again in the culture. Where you think OP got the idea from to even comment on this topic. Maybe you love the majority of the beats he's had. That's fine. But the biggest criticism of Nas in his career has been beat selection. And of course there are some great ones. You'll be hard pressed to find a beat better than Made You Look. But overall, his choices have not been as good as many would have liked to match his elite rhyme skill status.

Nas tend to have between 12 to 14/15 tracks per album, at the very least 3 to 4 tracks are maybe "subpar" beat wise according to ILLMATIC STANDARDS. Which still leave room for 9 to 10 choices of great, good, and decent beats. However, Nas "problem" isn't beat selection, it's track selection; perhaps it due to sample clearance or just leaving off the better track. With that being said post which tracks is disappointing from each album so we can see what is disappointed to you.
