Myth or Fact: Parents of the 70s and 80s allowed kids to roam free?

I realize there may not be many who experienced this here, but from yall experience was it fact or fiction. Or as someone suggested, "that's just how it was portrayed in movies".

Absolutely. Some people had “cant go past this block” rules (or maybe we all did) but eveyone just went wherever they wanted to as long as you were home before the streetlights.

Remember there were no cell phones or tracking or anything, and kids played outside so it was rare to go over your folks crib (no video games and too old to play with toys)

I was raised in 80s. By 90s we at least had video games

From what I heard yes. I grew up in the 90's (preteen and teen years) and we were always outside and I mean OUTSIDE!

We'd leave the house and be gone for hours without anyone knowing where the hell we were.

We didn't come back until dinner time or the street lights came on. It was survival of the fittest

I remember waking up some days, like say when school was our, eating some cereal and then hitting the block. Before anyone else in the house was woke, be about 8am. Anything before 8am was pushing it and ma dukes would wake up and stop ya .

Having a bike led to going very far from home at times without anyone knowing where I was. By the the time I was 17 I had full freedom and was traveling around the country on the greyhound dolo.

Yeah it was called going outside to play. There were rules but you were unsupervised so it was on you to keep them. They told me don't go in other kids houses and I did all the time.

White kids used to stay missing and I have observed why they did and still do.......them lil fukkers have no real sense of what stranger danger truly is.......they will walk INTO anywhere as if they are supposed to be there.........had to stop my kids playing with some because they would just tey and walk in the house a d demand to know why MY kids had to do certain things and follow certain rules..........I wasn't shocked at the act, but the nerve and seriousness they mustard in the moment let me know they parents don't whoop they ass and that they were the designated insurance kids........
